Mahe, the first indigenously designed anti-submarine ship, is unveiled
- The Indian Navy has unveiled the emblem of Mahe, the first indigenously designed anti-submarine ship. It will soon be commissioned into the Navy at a ceremony in Mumbai. This is a major milestone in the ship’s journey from design to operation, celebrating India’s growing self-reliance in naval shipbuilding.
- Named after Mahe, a coastal city on India’s west coast, the ship reflects India’s long maritime tradition and coastal spirit. The ship’s emblem draws inspiration from the region’s cultural and martial heritage. The flexible sword Urumi, associated with Kalaripayattu and a symbol of Kerala’s martial heritage, is depicted rising from the sea.
- Urumi symbolizes agility, precision and fierceness, reflecting the ship’s ability to operate quickly and strike decisively. The ship's emblem reflects the commitment of the Indian Navy to be indigenously designed, innovative and self-reliant.
