Indian shooter Samrat Rana wins gold at World Shooting Championship 2025
- India's Samrat Rana (586.27 points) and Varun Tomar (586.26) entered the final bracket by securing the top two spots in the men's 10m air pistol qualification round of the ISSF World Shooting Championship being held in Cairo, Egypt.
- Samrat Rana topped the final with a total of 243.7 points. China's Hu Kai won the silver medal with 243.3 points, just 0.4 points behind him. Varun, who came third (221.7), won the bronze medal.
- Samrat Rana also holds the distinction of being the first Indian pistol shooter to win the individual air pistol world championship title. He has registered this great victory in his first competition at the senior world championship.
- This is the first time in the history of the World Championship that two Indian athletes have won medals in the same category. With this victory, India has moved up to third place in its medal tally with 3 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze medals.
- The UN Climate Conference (COP-30) to accelerate efforts to prevent global climate change began in the city of Belém, located in the Amazon region of Brazil, on Monday. About 50,000 delegates from all over the world are participating in this conference.
- However, the absence of American representatives is considered a major setback. The United States is the world's largest oil producer and the second largest emitter of greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide, which are responsible for global warming.
- However, President Trump, who is skeptical of what scientists say about climate change, did not participate in this conference. In the 2015 Paris Agreement, countries including India agreed to limit greenhouse gas emissions to keep global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
- But there has been a continuing delay in achieving that goal. In this context, the 30th Climate Conference, which is currently underway in Brazil, is said to have generated a lot of anticipation.
