Dr. S. Jayakumari from Kanyakumari district, Tamil Nadu, was conferred with the My Bharat - National Welfare Scheme Award
- The President of the Republic, Smt. Draupadi Murmu, today (October 6, 2025) presented the My Bharat - National Welfare Scheme Awards for the year 2022-23 at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The awards are given annually in recognition of outstanding contribution to voluntary social work. The event was attended by Union and State Ministers and senior officers.
- Ten National Welfare Scheme Offices and their ten Project Officers, as well as 30 volunteers, were conferred with the awards. Among the recipients of the National Welfare Scheme Officers award, Dr. S. Jayakumari from Vivekananda College, Agastheeswaram, Kanyakumari district, Tamil Nadu, was conferred with the award.
- The motto of the National Welfare Scheme is ‘Not Me, You’. The main objective of this is to develop personality and character among the youth of the country through voluntary social service.
- The country has achieved a positive target in the sex ratio at birth. According to the sample registration system taken in 2023, the sex ratio has increased by 18 points. That is, while there were only 819 females per 1,000 males during the period 2016-18, it has increased to 917 females in the year 2021-23.
- According to the 2021 - 23 census, there are 917 females per thousand males. This improvement has been possible due to the strengthening of the law prohibiting the advance determination of the sex of the fetus.
- Females are born with stronger immunity and are more resilient than males. That is, naturally, female babies have a higher chance of survival than male babies.
- The Defence Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh, will inaugurate the National Conference on Opportunities in Defence Manufacturing in the country in New Delhi on 07 October 2025.
- The conference, organised by the Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence, will serve as a platform for strengthening collaboration between the Ministry of Defence, States and Union Territories to link regional industrial policies and infrastructure development with the national goal of achieving self-reliance in defence manufacturing.
- During the conference, the Defence Minister will inaugurate a new ‘Defence Export Import Platform’ designed to streamline the process of granting export and import authorisations.
- He will also inaugurate the website SRIJAN DEEP (Defence Enterprises and Entrepreneurs Platform), a digital platform mapping the capabilities and products of the Indian defence industries.
- The conference will also launch the ‘State and Union Territories Space and Defence Sector Policy Brief’ and ‘Shared Areas of Innovation’ on Defence Capability Innovation (IDEX). The conference aims to bring together senior industry officials from all states and union territories to discuss their key contributions to improving India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem.
- The conference will also highlight the efforts being made in the country to increase domestic manufacturing, promote defence exports and promote investment in the sector.
- Japan held elections for the 248-seat upper house of parliament in July. A majority of 125 seats is required. But the ruling LDP won 122 seats. Earlier, the LDP lost its majority in the lower house of parliament elections held in October last year.
- This setback led to opposition within the party, demanding that party leader Shigeru Ishiba resign and take responsibility. As a result, Shigeru Ishiba resigned less than a year after taking office as prime minister.
- A vote was held by party executives, including 295 MPs, to elect a new party leader. Five candidates competed. In this, former Economic and Security Minister Sane Takaichi, 64, won and was elected as the leader of the LDP party.
- In the internal party election, Sane received 183 votes and Koizumi 164 votes. Sane Takaichi officially took office as the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party. She is expected to become Japan's first female prime minister.
