9 states get Rs. 4,645.60 crore reconstruction fund - High-level committee approves
- A high-level committee headed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah has approved the proposal to provide funds from the National Disaster Response Fund for relief and reconstruction projects in 9 states - Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Chhattisgarh.
- The high-level committee comprises Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and the Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog.
- The high-level committee has also approved Phase-II of the Urban Flood Risk Management Plan (UFRMP) for 11 cities. A total of Rs. 4,645.60 crore has been allocated for Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, Jaipur, Kanpur, Patna, Raipur, Thiruvananthapuram, Visakhapatnam, Indore and Lucknow. 2444.42 crore has been allocated from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund.
- The Central Government is distributing a certain portion of the funds received from its tax revenue to the states. The distribution of funds to the states is done based on the recommendations of the Finance Commission. This is used by the state governments for the funds required for government welfare schemes and development works.
- This fund can be used by the states for various expenses such as their growth, development and welfare schemes. In this situation, the Central Government has released the funds that were to be released on October 10, 10 days ahead of the festive season.
- Based on this, Rs. 4,144 crore has been released to Tamil Nadu. The maximum amount of Rs. 18,227 crore has been released to Uttar Pradesh and Rs. 10,219 crore to Bihar. Rs. 7,676 crore and Rs. 6,418 crore have been released to MP. A total of Rs. 1,01,603 crore has been released to the states from the central tax share.
- The state-wise amount released is as follows: Andhra Pradesh - Rs. 4,112 crore, Arunachal Pradesh - Rs. 1,785 crore, Assam - Rs. 3178 crore, Bihar - Rs. 10219 crore, Chhattisgarh - Rs. 3462 crore, Goa - Rs. 392 crore, Gujarat - Rs. 3534 crore, Haryana - Rs. 11111 crore, Himachal Pradesh - Rs. 843 crore, Jharkhand - Rs. 3360 crore, Karnataka - Rs. 3705 crore, Kerala - Rs. 1956 crore, Madhya Pradesh - Rs. 7976 crore, Maharashtra - Rs. 6418 crore, Manipur Rs. 727 crore, Meghalaya - Rs. 779 crore, Mizoram - Rs. 508 crore, Nagaland - Rs. 578 crore, Odisha - Rs. 4601 crore, Punjab - Rs. 1836 crore, Rajasthan - Rs. 6123 crore, Sikkim - Rs. 394 crore, Tamil Nadu - Rs. 4144 crore, Telangana - Rs. 2136 crore, Tripura - Rs. 719 crore, Uttar Pradesh - Rs. 18,227 crore, Uttarakhand - Rs. 1136 crore, West Bengal - Rs. 7644 crore
