  • Chief Minister M.K. Stalin released the book "A Sun from the South" on behalf of the School Education Department at the Secretariat on Friday (Oct. 24). The book is being jointly published by the Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation under its 'Thisai Moksha Dravidam' project in association with KSL Media.
  • The book "A Sun from the South" links the personality of the three Tamil scholars and artists with the Dravidian movement and is compiled in a way that encourages and inspires to examine the contemporary history and politics of India from the south.
  • This is an English translation of the Tamil book previously published under the title "A Sun from the South", and has been written with extra care to attract readers with the same vigor as reading the original book.
First indigenously designed anti-submarine warfare ship ‘Mahe’ inducted into Indian Navy
  • The first of eight anti-submarine warfare ships, Mahe, built by Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), Kochi, was commissioned into the Indian Navy today. Named after Mahe, the historic port city of the Union Territory of Puducherry, the ship exemplifies India’s rich maritime heritage.
  • Reflecting India’s growing self-reliance in shipbuilding, the ship has been designed and built entirely indigenously by CSL. It is designed for underwater surveillance, low-intensity maritime operations and anti-submarine warfare.
  • With a displacement of about 1,100 tonnes, it is capable of conducting underwater warfare at a depth of approximately 78 metres, with torpedoes, multi-role anti-submarine missiles and advanced radars and sonars.
  • The anti-submarine warfare ships will significantly enhance the capabilities of the Indian Navy and enhance maritime security in coastal areas. Built with over 80% indigenous content, the ‘Mahe’ warship confirms the government’s vision of a self-reliant India.
