Index of Eight Major Industries for September 2025
- The composite index of eight major industries increased by 3.0 percent (provisional) in September 2025 as compared to the index in September 2024. The production of steel, cement, electricity and fertilizers registered positive growth in September 2025.
- The index measures the combined and individual performance of production in eight major industries namely coal, crude oil, natural gas, refined products, fertilizers, steel, cement and electricity. The eight major industries account for 40.27 percent of the weight of the goods included in the Industrial Production Index.
- The final growth rate of the index of eight major industries for August 2025 was 6.5 percent. The cumulative growth rate of the index of eight major industries from April to September 2025-26 as compared to the corresponding period of the previous year is 2.9 percent (provisional).
- Coal production (baseline: 10.33 percent) decreased by 1.2 percent over September 2024. Its overall index for April-September 2025-26 decreased by 0.7 percent over the same period of the previous year.
- Crude oil production (baseline: 8.98 percent) decreased by 1.3 percent over September 2024. Its overall index for April-September 2025-26 decreased by 1.1 percent over the same period of the previous year.
- Natural gas production (baseline: 6.88 percent) decreased by 3.8 percent over September 2024. Its overall index for April-September 2025-26 decreased by 2.9 percent over the same period of the previous year.
- Production of petroleum products (base: 28.04 percent) decreased by 3.7 percent in September 2025 as compared to September 2024. Its overall index decreased by 0.3 percent in April-September 2025-26 as compared to the same period of the previous year.
- Production of fertilizers (base: 2.63 percent) increased by 1.6 percent in September 2024. Its overall index decreased by 0.4 percent in April-September 2025-26 as compared to the same period of the previous year.
- Production of steel (base: 17.92 percent) increased by 14.1 percent in September 2024. Its overall index increased by 11.0 percent in April-September 2025-26 as compared to the same period of the previous year.
- Production of cement (base: 5.37 percent) increased by 5.3 percent in September 2024. Its overall index increased by 7.7 percent during April-September 2025-26 over the corresponding period of the previous year.
- Electricity generation (baseline: 19.85 percent) increased by 2.1 percent in September 2025 over September 2024. Its overall index increased by 0.9 percent during April-September 2025-26 over the corresponding period of the previous year.
- The Ministry of Industry and Domestic Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Primus Partners Private Limited to strengthen the innovation and entrepreneurship environment of the country.
- The partnership will enhance support for start-up and scale-up stages of products through capacity building activities, expert mentoring, market access initiatives, policy awareness activities, technology integration facilities.
