18 bills passed in the Assembly, including those for the establishment of Siddha Medical College and private universities
  • Minister I. Periyasamy introduced the Panchayats Amendment Bill in the Legislative Assembly yesterday to grant licenses for waste disposal activities in rural local bodies. Minister E.V. Velu introduced amendments to the Highways Department and Maritime Board Acts to implement the imposition of monetary penalties instead of imprisonment and fines in court cases regarding highway and marine cargo transportation offenses.
  • Ministers Sivashankar and K.V. Chezhiyan introduced bills to implement the imposition of monetary penalties in the Power Department, Vocational Education Centers and private colleges.
  • Similarly, Minister P.K. Sekarbabu introduced a bill to amend the Hindu Religious Endowments Act to establish and maintain educational institutions, priests, musicians, reciters, adhyapas and Vedas reciters.
  • Following this, Minister Thangam Thennarasu introduced the Financial Appropriation Bill. Following this, these draft bills were examined and finalized. In addition, the Fiscal Management Accountability Amendment Bill, which was passed in the Assembly last year and returned by the Governor, was re-passed.
  • Furthermore, the draft laws for increasing the pension of former members of the Legislative Assembly, appointing differently-abled persons in the Ambedkar Law University Governing Council, repealing obsolete laws, extending the tenure of individual officers of panchayats for another 6 months, and granting licenses for sewage disposal activities in rural local bodies were examined and passed.
  • Apart from this, 18 draft laws were examined and passed yesterday, including the draft law on transparent tenders, establishment of Siddha Medical University, establishment of private universities, and draft laws for filling non-teaching posts in universities through the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission.
All India Consumer Price Index for Agricultural and Rural Workers for the Month of September
  • The Labour Bureau of the Ministry of Labour and Employment has released the Consumer Price Index numbers for agricultural workers and rural workers for the month of September 2025. These indices are based on data collected from a sample of 787 villages across 34 states/UTs.
  • In September 2025, the All India Consumer Price Index for agricultural labourers (base: 2019=100) decreased by 0.11 points to 136.23 and for rural labourers by 0.18 points to 136.42. The food index for agricultural labourers and rural labourers declined by 0.47 points and 0.58 points respectively in September.
