IMF estimates India's GDP growth at 6.6%
- The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has revised India's GDP growth forecast for the current fiscal year to 6.6%, up from 6.4% previously. At the same time, the growth forecast for the 2026-27 financial year has been revised down by 20 basis points to 6.2%.
- It is worth noting that earlier, in early October, the World Bank had revised India's GDP growth forecast for the current fiscal year to 6.5% from the previously projected 6.3%.
- China is at the second position with a growth rate of 4.8%. Germany is expected to grow by 0.2%, Russia by 0.6%, France by 0.7%, Japan by 1.1%, Britain by 1.3%, and the United States by 2%.
- India is at the top in terms of growth in the coming fiscal year. India is leading with a growth rate of 6.2 percent, while China and Nigeria are at 2nd place with 4.2 percent growth each. The IMF predicts that the US will grow by 2.1 percent, Britain by 1.3 percent, Russia by 1 percent, Germany by 0.9 percent, France by 0.9 percent, and Japan by 0.6 percent.
- The fifth edition of the bilateral joint exercise between the Indian Navy and the Indonesian Navy, Samudra Shakti-2025, will be held in Visakhapatnam from October 14 to 17, 2025.
- The Indian Navy's anti-submarine warfare ship INS Kavaratti and the Indonesian Navy's KRI Jan Li frigate are among the participants. Activities including bilateral ship visits, joint yoga sessions, friendly games, and expert exchange of views are being carried out during the exercise at the port.
- Helicopter piloting, flight training, weapons handling, search and seizure training are being carried out during the sea exercise.
- The Defence Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh, has approved a 100% increase in financial assistance to ex-servicemen and their dependents under the schemes implemented by the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare.
- The monthly financial assistance to senior and non-pensionable ex-servicemen and widows above the age of 65 years has been doubled from Rs. 4000 to Rs. 8000 as poor relief.
- The educational assistance for widows and two children (from class 1 to graduation) pursuing their second year of postgraduate studies has been increased from Rs. 1000 to Rs. 2000 per month.
- The marriage assistance has been increased from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 1,00,000. This is also applicable to 2 daughters of ex-servicemen, widow remarriage and marriage after this order.
- The revised rates will be provided for applications submitted from November 1, 2025. This assistance has been provided through the Ex-Servicemen Welfare Fund, which is included in the Armed Forces Flag Day Nithiya. It will cost about Rs. 257 crore per year.
- This decision strengthens the social security of low-income senior and non-pensionable ex-servicemen and their dependents in line with the government's commitment to honour the sacrifice and service of ex-servicemen.
