India's Industrial Production Index (IPI) grew by 3.5% in July
  • The flash estimate of the IPI will now be released on the 28th of every month (or the next working day if the 28th falls on a holiday). The index is compiled with data received from source institutions. These flash estimates are subject to revision in subsequent releases as per the revision policy.
  • The growth rate of the IPI for July 2025 was 3.5 per cent. It was 1.5 per cent in June 2025. The growth rates of the three sectors, mining, manufacturing and electricity, for July 2025 were (-) 7.2 per cent, 5.4 per cent and 0.6 per cent respectively.
  • The flash estimate of the IPI is now 155.0, which was 149.8 in July 2024. The industrial production indices for mining, manufacturing and electricity sectors for July 2025 are 107.7, 156.9 and 221.5 respectively.
Commonwealth Weightlifting - Ajith wins gold & Nirupama wins silver
  • The Commonwealth Championships are underway in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Indian weightlifter Ajith Narayana (26) won the gold medal in the 71 kg weightlifting category by lifting a total of 317 kg in snatch, clean and jerk.
  • Nigeria's Joseph Etidiong Umofia won the silver medal by lifting 316 kg. Indian athlete Nirupama (24) won the silver medal in the women's 63 kg snatch, clean and jerk event with a total of 217. Canadian athlete Maud Charon won the gold in the event.
2 more new judges appointed to the Supreme Court
  • Mumbai High Court Chief Justice Alok Arade and Patna High Court Chief Justice Vibul Manubhai Pancholi have been appointed as Supreme Court judges. The Union Law Ministry said that both have been appointed as Supreme Court judges based on the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium.
  • It is noteworthy that among them, Justice Nagaratna, a member of the Collegium, strongly opposed Pancholi's appointment. It is noteworthy that after the two judges take oath, the Supreme Court will function with full strength of 34 judges, including the Chief Justice.
