India elected as Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Development Corporation (APBD)

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today laid the foundation stone of various development projects worth Rs 12,000 crore in Gaya, Bihar and inaugurated the completed projects.
  • In a bid to improve transport connectivity, the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, inaugurated the 8.15 km long Aunda-Shimaria flyover, which includes a 1.86 km long 6-lane road on National Highway No. 31 over the Ganga River, at a cost of Rs. 1,870 crore.
  • The Prime Minister also inaugurated the four-laning road between Bakhtiarpur and Mogama on National Highway No. 31, at a cost of Rs. 1,900 crore. The road will reduce travel time between these areas, decongest traffic and provide new economic opportunities to the people living in the area.
  • To strengthen power infrastructure in Bihar, the Prime Minister inaugurated the Buxar Thermal Power Plant (660 MW) built at a cost of Rs. 6,880 crore.
  • The Prime Minister inaugurated the Sewage Treatment Plant and the Sewerage Line Construction under the Swachh Ganga Mission, which is a part of the vision of the Swachh Bharat Mission, which aims to maintain cleanliness and ensure uninterrupted flow of water in the Ganga River, at a cost of Rs 520 crore.

In the case related to the Bihar Special Voter Amendment Act, those who were wrongly removed from the voter list should be included again - Supreme Court orders
  • The assembly elections in Bihar are going to be held in a few months. Earlier, the Election Commission had carried out a special amendment called SAC there. Opposition parties and various organizations strongly opposed this and filed a case in the Supreme Court.
  • In the previous hearing regarding the SAC, it was ordered to publish the details of the removed people on the Election Commission's website. It is in this context that the case related to this came up for hearing again today.
  • At that time, the Supreme Court said that those who were removed from the voter list can use their Aadhaar card as their residence proof. The court ordered that the Election Commission should include the Aadhaar card along with the 11 documents already available.
  • Furthermore, the Supreme Court has ordered the Election Commission to include those who were wrongly removed from the draft voter list.
  • The court has made strong comments on the political parties of Bihar in this matter. Stating that political parties are not doing their duty, the court questioned why no political party has helped more than 65 lakh excluded voters. Only a few MPs and MLAs have raised objections to the draft electoral roll individually.
  • At the same time, the Election Commission has said that no party has raised objections as a party. Pointing out this, the judges said, "What are your polling agents doing? Political parties should help voters," the court also emphasized.
Supreme Court verdict on removal of stray dogs
  • A two-judge bench of the Supreme Court has ordered that all stray dogs be removed within 8 weeks. This created a huge stir across the national capital.
  • Several petitions were filed in the Supreme Court against this order. And the matter was mentioned before the Chief Justice of India. After which he constituted a special bench of three judges.
  • On August 14, a special bench of three judges, Justice Vikram Nath, Justice Sandeep Meta and Justice NV Anjari, heard the petitions filed in the Supreme Court against the two-judge bench order. But it reserved its order without giving a final verdict.
  • In this regard, today, a three-judge bench said, "All the caught stray dogs should be released. The dogs should be neutered.
  • They should be vaccinated and then released among the people. And if the stray dogs become aggressive and bite the public, they should be kept in separate jails," the Supreme Court judges gave their verdict.
  • The court said that sections 12, 12.1 and 12.2 of the municipal ordinance should be followed. Dogs should be caught, dewormed, vaccinated, etc. and released in the same area. But aggressive or rabid dogs will not be released.
  • Feeding of dogs in public places will be prohibited. For this, a separate dedicated feeding zone should be created. Many incidents have taken place due to improper feeding. Therefore, a separate zone should be created for feeding stray dogs.
  • You cannot feed stray dogs wherever you want. Dogs cannot roam freely on the streets. Reiterating paragraph 13 of the previous ordinance, no person or organization can provide these services It was amended to not prevent.
  • Also, dog lovers and NGOs will have to deposit ₹ 25,000 and ₹ 1 lakh respectively in the court registry. Apart from this, if anyone wants to adopt stray dogs, they can apply for this in the court. After that, if the application is accepted, permission will be given to keep stray dogs. Keeping in mind all the states, the Supreme Court has issued this order.
