Chief Minister M.K. Stalin releases legal recognition, protection and unique policy for transgenders
- Chief Minister M.K. Stalin released a unique policy for transgenders, which includes legal recognition and protection. The event was held at the Secretariat on Thursday.
- A MoU was signed between the Swachh Tamil Nadu and the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai on behalf of the Special Project Implementation Department at the Secretariat today (Aug. 1) in the presence of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to create an integrated framework for solid waste management.
- Among the various initiatives being taken by the Tamil Nadu government, an integrated organization called Swachh Yayak has been established under the Special Project Implementation Department with the aim of bringing about a revolution in the management of solid waste generated daily in urban and rural areas of Tamil Nadu.
- Clean Tamil Nadu Company Limited has been set up to implement this movement. Clean Tamil Nadu Company Limited is implementing sustainable waste management solutions for the state through local bodies under the Swachh Bharat Mission.
- As part of this, Clean Tamil Nadu Company Limited will work with the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras to create a strong integrated framework for the proper handling and recycling of solid waste generated across the state using scientifically advanced technology.
- For this, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Managing Director of Clean Tamil Nadu Company Limited (CTCL) and the Director of the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras today in the presence of Chief Minister Stalin.
- It has been stated that this Memorandum of Understanding will pave the way for achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and to take steps to implement environmentally friendly reuse and recycling through high technology to overcome the challenges faced in solid waste management in the state.
- The Central government has approved setting up of Prime Minister's Mega Integrated Textile Zone and Readymade Garments Park (PM Mitra) in 7 states including Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh.
- An allocation of Rs 1,197.33 crore has been made for the infrastructure facilities required for this park and work has been started in various states. The Union Ministry of Textiles has informed that Rs 291.61 crore has been spent so far on the work of setting up the textile park.
- Under the PM Mitra Park Development Scheme in the states of Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh, an allocation of Rs 1,894 crore and Rs 2,063 crore has been approved respectively.
- The Central Government is implementing two schemes, the National Handloom Development Scheme and the Raw Material Supply Scheme, to modernize and strengthen the handloom sector across the country and for the benefit of handloom weavers.
