Free breakfast for sanitation workers - Tamil Nadu Cabinet approval
  • The cabinet meeting was held today in the morning under the chairmanship of MK Stalin. Various issues were discussed in this meeting. The cabinet has approved various projects. The main issue was the struggle of sanitation workers.
  • All the ministers including Udhayanidhi Stalin participated in this cabinet meeting. Important decisions were taken in the Tamil Nadu cabinet meeting regarding special projects for sanitation workers.
  • Announcement 1 - Sanitation workers are more likely to suffer from lung and skin diseases when they handle garbage. Therefore, a separate program will be implemented to diagnose and treat such occupational diseases.
  • Announcement 2 - Currently, if sanitation workers die while on duty, they are provided financial assistance through the Sanitation Workers Welfare Board. In order to fully ensure the welfare and livelihood of the families of sanitation workers, in addition to this financial assistance, these workers will be provided with free insurance of Rs. 5 lakh. This will enable the families of sanitation workers who die on the job to get Rs. 10 lakh.
  • Announcement 3 - To improve the socio-economic status of sanitation workers and their families, 35 percent of the funds will be provided as a subsidy up to a maximum of Rs. 3,50,000 in the business plan assessment when they start their own business. Furthermore, those who receive this loan and start a business and repay the loan regularly will be provided with a 6 percent interest subsidy. An annual allocation of Rs. 10 crore has been made for this new scheme.
  • Announcement 4 - A “New Higher Education Scholarship Scheme” will be implemented to provide not only higher tuition concessions to the children of sanitation workers, but also assistance for hostel fees and book fees, regardless of the school they attend.
  • Announcement 5 – In urban areas, 30,000 houses will be constructed for sanitation workers who do not have their own homes in the next three years, with the help of the Sanitation Workers Welfare Board, under various schemes such as Tamil Nadu Housing Board, Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board schemes, and construction of houses at the place of residence of sanitation workers. Sanitation workers living in rural areas will be given priority in this housing allocation under the “Kalaignar Kanavu Illam” scheme.
  • Announcement 6 – In a situation where sanitation workers have to start their work early in the morning, they are facing various problems in cooking breakfast and bringing it to the workplace and having it. As a solution to these problems, breakfast will be provided free of cost by the respective local bodies to the workers working in urban local bodies. This scheme will be implemented in the Greater Chennai Corporation in the first phase and will be gradually extended to other urban local bodies. 6 major schemes have been announced for sanitation workers.
Hihoki Power Tools signs MoU with Tamil Nadu government to set up power tools manufacturing plant
  • Chief Minister Stalin has set a target of transforming Tamil Nadu, the second largest economy in India, into a trillion dollar economy by 2030, and the Tamil Nadu government is taking various initiatives to attract more investments and create more jobs for the youth of Tamil Nadu to achieve this goal soon.
  • It is noteworthy that the Economic Survey of the Central Government for 2024-25 has praised the Tamil Nadu government for its excellent performance in attracting investments and creating more jobs, especially for women.
  • Kogi Holding, a global company based in Japan, has manufacturing plants in Japan, Germany, China, the US and India.
  • Its subsidiary Higoki Power Tools India Private Limited, headquartered in Bengaluru, has an extensive network of over 15 sales offices, over 500 distributors and over 100 service centers. 
  • Higoki Power Tools India Private Limited today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the presence of Chief Minister Stalin to set up a power tools manufacturing plant at an industrial park located in Mahindra World City, Chengalpattu district, with a committed investment of Rs. 700 crore and providing direct and indirect employment to over 1000 people.
Operation Sindhur - 36 Air Force personnel awarded gallantry awards

  • A person who acted bravely without direct contact with the enemy has been awarded the Shaurya Chakra. This is an award next to the Ashoka Chakra and the Kirti Chakra. Another 26 people have been awarded the Vayu Sena Award.
  • Group Captains R.S. Sidhu, Manish Arora, Animesh Patni and Kunal Kalra, Wing Commander Joy Chandra, Squadron Leaders Sartak Kumar, Siddhanth Singh, Rizwan Malik and Flight Lieutenant A.S. Thakur have been announced as Vir Chakra awardees.
