First freight train service to Kashmir
- Until now, traders had relied solely on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway to transport goods from Kashmir to other parts of the country. This highway was frequently closed during the rainy and snowy seasons, causing huge losses to traders.
- In this context, the first freight train has been launched for the region. This freight train service will help transport horticultural produce to different parts of the country within 24 hours. It will also reduce transportation costs.
- It is said that this will bring joy to farmers as it helps in transporting perishable goods like apples to the market faster.
- In a bid to protect the environment, Indian Railways has successfully tested India's first hydrogen fuel cell train engine. The test was conducted at the Railway Integrated Coach Factory in Perambur, Chennai.
- The test success is considered a milestone in the energy transition journey of Indian Railways. This hydrogen train engine generates electricity by combining hydrogen and oxygen. Since only steam is released during this process, it is completely pollution-free for the environment.
