Governor R.N. Ravi approves two bills to provide representation to differently-abled people
- The government's amendment bills to make differently-abled people members of urban local bodies in Tamil Nadu without directly contesting elections and through nomination were earlier submitted to the Legislative Assembly and passed.
- That is, in all local bodies in Tamil Nadu, including village panchayats, panchayat unions, town panchayats, municipalities and corporations, differently-abled people will be made members through nomination without directly contesting elections.
- In this way, these bills will ensure the representation of differently-abled people in local bodies and enable them to get equal opportunities and privileges.
- Chief Minister Stalin had earlier introduced two bills in the Assembly on behalf of the Municipal Administration and Rural Development departments. In this situation, Governor R.N. Ravi has approved the two bills.
- Union Minister Shri Sarbananda Sonowal attended the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Kongsberg, Norway and Kolkata-based Garden Reach Shipbuilders. The MoU paves the way for India to build its first polar research vessel indigenously.
