Chief Minister M.K. Stalin launches electric bus service in Chennai
  • The Tamil Nadu government is taking steps to operate environmentally friendly natural gas and electric buses instead of diesel-powered buses. Appropriate steps are being taken by the Chennai Metropolitan Transport Corporation to operate 625 electric buses on a contract basis through 5 workshops.
  • As part of this, the work required to operate electric buses from the Chennai Vyasarpadi workshop was completed with great enthusiasm. In this context, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin launched the service of 120 electric buses from Chennai Vyasarpadi today (Monday).
  • Later, Chief Minister Stalin boarded the bus and inquired about the special features of the bus. It is noteworthy that the bus has been designed with facilities including 7 CCTV cameras, seat belts, and charging points.
GST collection of Rs 22.08 lakh crore in the financial year 2024-25
  • According to the central government data released on June 30, it has been reported that GST collection of Rs 22.08 lakh crore has been earned in the financial year 2024-25. This is an increase of 9.4 percent compared to the same period of the previous financial year.
  • It is noteworthy that GST collection has doubled in the last five years. Five years ago, GST collection in the financial year 2021 was Rs. 11.37 lakh crore, compared to the last financial year.
  • The average monthly GST collection in the financial year 2024-25 has increased to Rs. 1.84 lakh crore. The average monthly GST collection in the previous financial year was Rs. 1.68 lakh crore and Rs. 1.51 lakh crore in FY22.
  • The number of registered GST taxpayers has also increased from 65 lakh in 2017 to over 1.51 crore. This growth has occurred in the last 8 years.
India's industrial production declines to a nine-month low
  • India's industrial production growth slowed to a nine-month low of 1.2 percent in May 2025 due to poor performance of manufacturing, mining and power sectors. Factory production, as measured by the Industrial Production Index, had grown by 6.3 percent in May 2024.
  • In the manufacturing sector, data shows that production growth slowed to 2.6 percent in May 2025. It was 5.1 percent last year. Mining production declined by 0.1 percentage point compared to 6.6 percent growth a year ago.
  • Electricity production declined by 5.5 percent in May 2025. This was 13.7 percent in the same period last year. During the April-May period of the financial year 2026, industrial production grew by 1.8 percent. This was 5.7 percent a year ago.
