Tamil Nadu government approves Poontamally-Paranthur Metro
- A detailed feasibility report recommending a Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) from Poontamally to Paranthur via Thirumalai and Sriperumbudur was submitted to the Tamil Nadu government last year.
- The route is proposed to be approximately 43.63 km long with 19 elevated metro stations. The detailed project report was prepared keeping in mind the recent developments such as the proposed new airport at Paranthur, the proposed bus stand at Thirumalai and the future development of the route.
- In the first phase, a metro elevated flyover will be constructed for a distance of 27.9 km from Poontamally to Sunguvarchathram. The Tamil Nadu government has approved the construction of the metro elevated flyover at an estimated cost of Rs. 8,779 crore.
- The Goods and Services Tax (GST) was implemented on July 1, 2017. The Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection in April was an all-time high of Rs 2.37 lakh crore.
- The GST collection in May last year was Rs 1.72 lakh crore, an increase of 16.4 percent compared to May last year, reaching Rs 2.01 lakh crore. This is the third highest revenue since the implementation of GST.
- The total collection in May was Rs 2.01 lakh crore, including central GST of Rs 35,434 crore, state GST of Rs 43,902 crore, integrated GST of Rs 1.09 lakh crore and additional tax of Rs 12,879 crore.
- GST collection through domestic transactions increased by 13.7 per cent to Rs 1.50 lakh crore and GST collection through imports increased by 25.2 per cent to Rs 51,266 crore in May 2025.
- The amount refunded this month was Rs 27,210 crore. This is 4 per cent less than the previous financial year. GST collection in large states like Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Karnataka has increased by 17 to 25 per cent.
