Tamil Nadu reaches new economic peak with 9.69% growth
- Tamil Nadu has recorded the highest growth in the country with a real growth rate of 9.69 percent in 2024-25. Moreover, this is the highest growth rate achieved by Tamil Nadu in the last 10 years. Tamil Nadu will achieve the target of becoming a trillion dollar economy by 2032-33.
- According to data published on the website of the Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) of Tamil Nadu, which was Rs. 15,71,368 crore in 2023-24, has increased to Rs. 17,23,698 crore in 2024-25.
- The previous highest growth rate was 8.59 percent in 2017-18. The lowest growth rate was recorded in 2020-21 during the Corona pandemic at 0.07 percent. While many states had negative growth during this period, Tamil Nadu had the least positive growth.
- Tamil Nadu has become the first state in India to achieve a nominal growth rate of 14.02 percent in 2024-25.
- The Narendra Modi-led government stands shoulder to shoulder with the Union Territories of Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, which faced natural calamities last year. A high-level committee headed by Union Home Minister and Cooperative Minister Amit Shah has approved an additional financial assistance of Rs. 1280.35 crore to the Union Territories of Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, which were affected by flash floods, heavy rains, landslides and cyclones in 2024.
- Bihar, which was hit by flash floods, heavy rains, landslides and cyclones, has been approved to provide Rs 588.73 crore, Himachal Pradesh Rs 136.22 crore, Tamil Nadu Rs 522.34 crore and Puducherry Rs 33.06 crore.
- In the financial year 2024-25, the Central Government has provided Rs 20,264.40 crore to 28 States under the State Disaster Relief Fund and Rs 5,160.76 crore to 19 States under the National Disaster Relief Fund.
- The High Level Responsible Group has approved the release of Rs 1247.29 crore as Central assistance to three States from the National Disaster Relief Fund. This will be adjusted to 50 percent of the opening balance of the State Disaster Relief Fund for the year and Rs 33.06 crore for one Union Territory.
- This additional assistance is in addition to the funds provided by the Central Government to the States under the State Disaster Relief Fund and the Union Territory Disaster Relief Fund already available to the States/Union Territories.
- In the financial year 2024-25, the Central Government has released Rs. 20,264.40 crore to 28 States under the State Disaster Relief Fund and Rs. 5,160.76 crore to 19 States under the National Disaster Relief Fund. Further, Rs. 4984.25 crore has been released to 19 States from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund and Rs. 719.72 crore to 8 States from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for Sri Lanka yesterday after leaving Bangkok. Prime Minister Modi was accorded a ceremonial welcome at the Independence Square in the capital Colombo this morning.
- Subsequently, Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake held talks with Indian Prime Minister Modi at the Presidential Secretariat.
