Key decision in the Union Cabinet meeting following the Pehalgam attack
  • 26 tourists were brutally shot dead by terrorists in the popular tourist town of Pehalgam in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. The Resistance Front, a shadow wing of the Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist organization, has claimed responsibility for the attack.
  • Following the Behalgam terror attack, a cabinet meeting was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The meeting held at Prime Minister Modi's residence in Delhi was attended by Union Defense Ministers Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Defense Secretary, and the three service chiefs.
  • The decisions taken in this meeting, according to the Indian Foreign Secretary, were that the decision was taken to cancel the Indus River Sharing Treaty. It has also been decided to reduce consular assistance.
  • Following the Behalgam attack, the Central Government announced the closure of the Attari-Wagah border. Pakistani embassy officials have also been ordered to leave within a week.
  • Visas for Pakistanis to come to India are being temporarily cancelled. The SPES that was issued to Pakistan in the past has been cancelled. Pakistanis who have come to India with visas have been ordered to leave within 48 hours.
  • Pakistani security, army, air force and naval personnel in India have also been ordered to leave within a week.
  • Navy, air force and security personnel have also been ordered to withdraw from Islamabad.
  • The Indian embassy in Pakistan is also being closed. India's three armed forces have also been ordered to be on alert.
