Former Judge Rajamanickam appointed as Tamil Nadu Lokayukta Chairman
  • The Lokayukta body has been formed as per the Tamil Nadu Lokayukta Act. This body will investigate corruption complaints against public servants.
  • There will be a chairman, 2 judicial members and 2 non-judicial members in this body. In this, the post of chairman and non-judicial members was vacant, so the selection of eligible persons was carried out.
  • Following this, former Madras High Court judge P. Rajamanickam, who is currently a member of the judiciary, has been appointed as the Lokayukta Chairman.
  • V. Ramaraj, Chairman of the District Consumer Affairs Grievance Redressal Commission from Namakkal district, and Arumuga Mohan Alangamani, former member of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal, have been selected and appointed for the vacant non-judicial member posts.
  • Rajamanickam, who has been appointed as the chairman, will hold office till April 17, 2027. The new members will hold office for 5 years or till they attain the age of 70, whichever comes first, the government said.
Rekha Gupta sworn in as Delhi Chief Minister
  • The BJP has come to power in the capital of India, Delhi, after winning the assembly elections. Before this, the BJP had formed the government in 1993.
  • During this time, Sahib Singh Verma, Madan Lal Khurana and Sushma Swaraj served as Chief Ministers. After that, in the elections held after 27 years, the BJP won 44 out of 70 seats and came to power in Delhi.

Rekha Gupta's swearing-in ceremony was held after she was elected as the 9th Chief Minister of Delhi.

Ministry of Defense signs contract for procurement of heavy-duty trucks worth Rs. 697.35 crore for the armed forces
  • The Ministry of Defense has signed a contract for procurement of 1868 trucks for transporting weapons and equipment on rough roads.
  • The contract for procurement of these vehicles for the tri-services at a cost of Rs. 697.35 crore was signed with Ace Limited and JCB India Limited in the presence of Defense Secretary Shri R. K. Singh.
  • These vehicles are being procured to enable the transportation of weapons to various areas to improve the operational efficiency of the security forces.
  • Procurement from indigenous equipment manufacturers will further enhance the country's defense equipment manufacturing capacity. This will also generate direct and indirect employment for a large number of people. 
  • Such activities are a boost to the MSMEs involved in the production of weapons. This procurement is designed to support indigenous industries in modernizing the country's defense infrastructure.
Ministry of Defense signs agreement with Bharat Electronics to procure 149 software-driven radios for the Indian Coast Guard
  • The Ministry of Defense today (February 20, 2025) signed a contract worth Rs. 1220.12 crore with Bharat Electronics, Bengaluru, for the procurement of 149 software-driven radios for the Indian Coast Guard.
  • These modern radios will enable secure and reliable information sharing, collaboration, and situational awareness through high-speed data and robust voice communication.
  • These will strengthen the Indian Coast Guard's ability to perform its key responsibilities including maritime law enforcement, search and rescue operations, fisheries protection, and marine environmental protection. Furthermore, these radios will help expand joint operations with the Indian Navy.
