
Index of Eight Major Industries for December 2024
- The composite index of eight major industries increased by 4 percent (provisional) in December 2024 as compared to the index of December 2023. The production of cement, coal, fertilizers and steel registered positive growth in December 2024.
- The industrial index measures the combined and individual production performance of eight major industries namely coal, crude oil, natural gas, refined products, fertilizers, steel, cement and electricity.
- The final growth rate of the index of eight major industries for September 2024 is 2.4 percent. The overall growth rate for the period April to December 2024-25 is 4.2 percent (provisional) as compared to the same period of the previous year.
- Coal - Coal production (weight: 10.33 percent) increased by 5.3 percent in December 2024 compared to December 2023.
- Crude oil - Crude oil production (weight: 8.98 percent) decreased by 2.1 percent in December 2024 compared to December 2023.
- Natural gas - Natural gas production (weight: 6.88 percent) decreased by 1.8 percent in December 2024 compared to December 2023.
- Petroleum refining products - Petroleum refining production (weight: 28.04 percent) increased by 2.8 percent in December 2024 compared to December 2023.
- Fertilizers - Fertilizer production (weight: 2.63 percent) increased by 1.7 percent in December 2024 compared to December 2023.
- Steel - Steel production (weight: 17.92 percent) increased by 5.1 percent in December 2024 over December 2023.
- Cement - Cement production (weight: 5.37 percent) increased by 4.0 percent in December 2024 over December 2023.
- Electricity - Electricity production (weight: 19.85 percent) increased by 5.1 percent in December 2024 over December 2023.
- The Central government has approved the participation of Indian team in the 9th Asian Winter Games (AWG)-2025 to be held in Harbin, China from 7 to 14 February 2025. In this, the government has given permission to participate 88 Indian representatives including 59 athletes and 29 team officials.
- For the first time, athletes competing in Alpine Skiing, Figure Skating, Short Track Speed Skiing, and Speed Skating (Long Track) are being provided full financial assistance under the National Sports Federations Assistance Scheme.

- The 38th National Games is being held in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. In this, Tamil Nadu’s Narmada Nithin Raju won the gold medal in the women’s 10m air rifle category in shooting yesterday.
- Tamil Nadu won the bronze medal in Kalaripayattu. Tamil Nadu's Srinidhi Nadesan won the silver medal in the women's 400-meter individual medley swimming event.
