PM Modi inaugurates Sonamarg tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir
  • The construction of the 'Z' shaped tunnel connecting Kakangir and Sonamarg in Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir has been completed. Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the Sonamarg (Z-Morh) tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir in the presence of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
  • The work on the Sonamarg tunnel began in May 2015. However, due to economic challenges, the completion of the project was delayed. Later, the foundation stone of the project was laid in October 2012 by the then Road Transport Minister C.P. Joshi.
  • The tunnel, which was initially planned to be completed by 2016-2017, has now been completed. The tunnel was completed at an estimated cost of over Rs 2,700 crore. Located at an altitude of over 8,650 feet, the Sonamarg tunnel is expected to ensure safe and fast travel, avoiding landslide and avalanche-prone areas. The Sonamarg tunnel is very important for the country's security needs in the Ladakh region.
  • The 6.5-km-long Sonamarg tunnel will now be accessible from Srinagar throughout the year. It will now help people travel easily and tourists come to visit at all times.
MoU between the National Health Commission, Government of India and the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Odisha
  • A MoU has been signed between the National Health Commission, Government of India and the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Odisha for the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.
  • The scheme will ensure access to quality healthcare services to women and senior citizens of Odisha at affordable prices. Odisha has become the 34th state to implement Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.
  • This will provide insurance coverage of up to Rs. 5 lakh per family per year. An additional Rs. 5 lakh will be provided to female members. 
  • A total of about 1.03 crore families will benefit under this scheme. Under the integrated scheme, 67.8 lakh families will benefit under the Central Government's insurance scheme.
MoU between C-DOT and IIT Mandi for development of low-power semiconductor chip
  • To develop domestic cutting-edge next-generation telecommunications technology, the Centre for Telematics Development (C-DOT), the flagship institution of the Department of Telecommunications, has signed an agreement with the Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi and the Indian Institute of Technology, Jammu. 
  • The agreement has been signed for the development of sensor ASIC-chip for broadband spectrum to improve the utilization of telecommunications spectrum.
  • The agreement, signed under the Telecom Technology Development Fund of the Department of Telecommunications, Government of India, provides financial assistance to startups, academics, and institutions engaged in research and development work in India. 
  • The scheme also supports activities such as manufacturing, design, and commercialization of telecommunication equipment. The scheme aims to provide affordable mobile broadband services.
