GST collection in November 2024 at Rs 1.82 lakh crore
- Total GST collection in November rose by 8.5 per cent to Rs 1.82 lakh crore, driven by increased sales during the festive season. Of this, Union GST collection was Rs 34,141 crore, State GST collection Rs 43,047 crore, Integrated IGST Rs 91,828 crore and Cess Rs 13,253 crore, the Union Finance Ministry said yesterday.
- Last year, Rs 1.68 lakh crore was collected in the same month. The previous month, October, saw a collection of Rs 1.87 lakh crore.
- Foreign Direct Investment in India increased by 45 per cent year-on-year to $29.79 billion in the April-September quarter. This was driven by healthy inflows in the services, IT, telecom and pharma sectors.
- While FDI inflows stood at $20.5 billion in the April-September quarter of 2023-24, FDI inflows increased by about 43 percent to $13.6 billion in the July-September quarter. At the same time, FDI inflows into India increased by 47.8 percent to $16.17 billion in the April-June quarter.
- Total FDI inflows, which stood at $33.12 billion in the April-September quarter of 2023-24, increased by 28 percent to $42.1 billion in the first half of this fiscal.
- During the April-September period of the current fiscal, Mauritius ($5.34 billion), Singapore ($7.53 billion), the United States ($2.57 billion), the Netherlands ($3.58 billion), the United Arab Emirates ($3.47 billion), the Cayman Islands ($235 million) and Cyprus ($808 million) saw increased FDI inflows. However, FDI from Japan and the UK declined.
- Sector-wise, investment increased in services, computer software and hardware, trade, telecommunications, automobiles, pharma and chemicals. Foreign direct investment increased to $5.69 billion in the first half of the current fiscal year. It was $3.85 billion in the same period last year.
- Foreign direct investment in the unconventional energy sector is $2 billion. Maharashtra received the highest FDI of USD 13.55 billion during the period April-September 2024-25. This was followed by Karnataka at USD 3.54 billion, Telangana at USD 1.54 billion and Gujarat at USD 4 billion.
- The 4th edition of the India-Malaysia joint military exercise Harimau Shakti began today at Camp Pendang in Pahang district, Malaysia. The exercise is scheduled to be held from December 2 to 15, 2024.
- A contingent of the Mahar Regiment is participating in the 78-strong Indian contingent. 123 soldiers from the Malaysian Royal Regiment represent the Malaysian contingent.
- The joint exercise Harimau Shakti is an annual military exercise held alternately in India and Malaysia. The previous exercise was held in November 2023 at Umroi Cantonment in Meghalaya, India.
