Parker Solar Probe makes history by making the closest approach to the Sun
- On Christmas Day, the unmanned Parker Solar Probe entered the Sun's outer atmosphere, enduring the extreme heat and intense radiation. After that, there was no contact from it for several days.
- Shortly before midnight on 26.12.2024 (around 10:30 am Indian time today), scientists received a signal from the Parker Solar Probe. Now, NASA has announced that the spacecraft is "safe" and operating normally after passing 6.1 million km from the Sun's surface.
- According to the NASA website, the spacecraft, traveling at a speed of 692,000 km, has withstood temperatures of up to 1,800F (980C).
