BJP MP Bibi Chowdhury appointed as chairman of One Nation, One Election Joint Committee
- Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal introduced the One Nation, One Election Bill in Parliament. It was decided to send the bill to the Parliamentary Joint Committee for its study. Subsequently, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla appointed a 39-member Parliamentary Joint Committee.
- The Parliament Secretariat has issued a notification that BJP MP and former Minister of State for Law and Justice Bibi Chowdhury has been appointed as the chairman of the Joint Committee.
- Former Union Ministers Anurag Thakur, Parshottam Rupala, Manish Tewari and Priyanka Gandhi, Bansuri Swaraj, Sambit Batra and others are included in this committee. This committee has 27 MPs from the Lok Sabha and 12 MPs from the Rajya Sabha.
- Out of the 39 members in the Joint Committee, 16 are from the BJP and 5 are from the Congress. Samajwadi Party, Trinamool Congress and DMK have 2 members each.
- The National Democratic Alliance has 22 members and the Bharatiya Janata Party has 15 members. The committee has been asked to submit its report by the first day of the last week of the next session.
- The 55th meeting of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council was held in Rajasthan under the chairmanship of Union Home Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. In this meeting, several decisions were taken, including an increase in sales tax on flavored popcorn and used cars.
- In it, it has been announced that 5% GST will be levied on popcorn with salt and spices, 12% GST will be levied on pre-packaged popcorn and 18% tax on caramel popcorn.
- It has been decided that the GST on autoclaved aerated concrete (ACC) blocks containing more than 50% ash will be reduced from 18% to 12%.
- It has been approved to increase the GST on sale of old and used cars sold through commercial establishments from 12% to 18%. It has been decided to reduce the tax on enriched rice from 18% to 5%.
