Governor approves bill to establish Tamil Nadu Highways Authority
- The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly session held last February approved the bill to establish the Tamil Nadu Highways Authority and sent it to the Governor of Tamil Nadu. It was informed in the Legislative Assembly that the Tamil Nadu State Highways Authority is being set up for the construction, development, maintenance and management of highways.
- The commission will have a chairman, 3 full-time members and 3 part-time members. The members can serve up to the age of 62. The Tamil Nadu State Highways Authority can prepare immediate and long-term plans for the maintenance and improvement of highways.
- The bill states that contracts can be entered into with private parties for the same. Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi on Monday approved the bill to establish a separate commission for the state, similar to the National Highways Authority.
- Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who is on a three-day state visit to India, called on the President this morning. He was received by the President and the Prime Minister there.
