Discovery of 6000 years old jasper and chert stones in Vijaya Karisalkulam
- More than 2400 items including flint figurines, chess pieces, glass beads, round chips have been found in the third phase of excavation at Vijaya Karisalkulam in Virudhunagar district.
- In this case, very old jasper and chert stones dating back about 6000 years have been found in a recently excavated pit. These stones have been used as raw materials for hunting animals since ancient times.
- The 3rd edition of the Joint Military Exercise commenced today at the Foreign Training Terminal in Pune, Maharashtra, Astrahind. The exercise will be conducted from November 8 to 21, 2024. The Astrahind practice is an annual event held alternately in India and Australia. The last edition of the same exercise was held in Australia in December 2023.
- The 140-strong Indian contingent will consist mainly of one battalion of the Dogra Regiment and 14 soldiers from the Indian Air Force. The 120-strong Australian Army Regiment will be represented by the 13th Light Horse Regiment of the 10th Squadron of the 2nd Brigade.
- Aligarh University of Uttar Pradesh was established about 150 years ago by Sir Syed Ahmed Khan. There was a 50 percent reservation in this university, which has a large number of Muslim students.
- A case was filed against this reservation in the Allahabad High Court several years ago. The court heard the case and ruled that the Aligarh Muslim University was not a minority educational institution.
- The judgment was appealed to the Supreme Court. While the case has been going on for years, a 7-judge bench headed by Chief Chandrachud delivered the judgment today.
- In which, 4 judges including the Chief Justice gave one opinion and 3 judges gave a different opinion. They ruled that Aligarh University could not be denied minority status as an educational institution established by an Act of Parliament.
- With this, it is confirmed that 50 percent reservation will be given to Muslim students. It will be the last day of work for the retiring Supreme Court Chief Justice Chandrachud.
