Government of Tamil Nadu MoU with Caterpillar
- In the presence of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, an MoU was signed between Caterpillar and the Government of Tamil Nadu for expansion of the existing construction equipment manufacturing plants in Tiruvallur and Krishnagiri districts with an investment of Rs 500 crore.
- In this MoU event, Director of Caterpillar Company Mr. Bhuvan Ananthakrishnan, Senior Vice President Mr. Kirk Eppler and other high officials participated.
- The third phase of excavation work is underway at Vijayakarisalkulam near Vembakottai in Virudhunagar district. Excavations conducted so far have unearthed more than 1,700 items, including bangles, conch bangles, printing machines, flint seals, dangles worn by women, copper coins, pottery, etc.
- Meanwhile, for the first time in the Vembakotta excavation, a large red cone-shaped earthenware vessel has been found undamaged. Ancestors may have used it for food or as a cover for earthen pots. The cookware is finely made of fire clay so that it does not break.
- The industrial index growth rate for July 2024 is 4.8 percent. It was 4.7% in June 2024. The flash estimates for July, 2024, the first revision for June and the final revision for April, 2024 were compiled at rates of 91 percent, 94 percent and 96 percent respectively.
- Prime Minister Mr. The Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Narendra Modi approved the “PM-eBus Service Security Mechanism (PSM) scheme for procurement and operation of electric buses by public transport authorities with an allocation of Rs 3,435.33 crore.
- The scheme will enable commissioning of over 38,000 electric buses (e-buses) from FY 2024-25 to FY 2028-29. The scheme will support the operation of e-buses for up to 12 years from the date of implementation
- Prime Minister Mr. The Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Narendra Modi approved the proposal of the Ministry of Heavy Industries to implement the "Prime Minister's Electric Driving Revolution (PM E-Drive) Scheme in Innovative Vehicle Development" to promote electric mobility in the country.
- An amount of Rs 10,900 crore has been spent on this project over two years. The scheme will help procure 24.79 lakh e-2Ws, 3.16 lakh e-3Ws and 14,028 e-buses.
- Prime Minister Mr. The Union Cabinet chaired by Narendra Modi approved the proposal of the Ministry of Power to modify the Budgetary Support Scheme for implementation of infrastructure facilities for hydropower projects with a total allocation of Rs 12,461 crore. The scheme will be implemented from FY 2024-25 to FY 2031-32.
- Prime Minister Mr. The Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Narendra Modi today approved the proposal of the Department of Rural Development to implement the "Prime Minister's Rural Roads Scheme-IV (PMGSY-IV) for the financial year 2024-25 to 2028-29".
- Construction of new link roads for 25,000 eligible households without access to roads and 62,500 km for construction/upgradation of bridges on new link roads. Funding will be provided for construction of long roads.
- The total estimate of the project is Rs.70,125 crore. The total estimate of the scheme is Rs 70,125 crore (Central Government share Rs 49,087.50 crore and State share Rs 21,037.50 crore).
- Prime Minister Mr. The Union Cabinet chaired by Narendra Modi approved the Rs 2,000 crore 'Weather Movement' (Mission Mausam) over two years. The Indian Meteorological Department, the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology and the National Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasting will primarily implement the Weather Mobility Programme.
- The Union Cabinet meeting was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Modi. In 2018, the central government came up with the Ayushman Bharat scheme to provide free medical insurance to economically disadvantaged people.
- At present the scheme has been approved to provide insurance under this scheme to all those above the age of 70 across socio-economic status. The scheme will benefit 6 crore senior citizens in 4.5 crore families.
- The 102nd meeting of the Cauvery Water Management Committee began under the chairmanship of its Chairman Vineet Gupta. Officials of water resources departments of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Puducherry states have participated in this meeting.
- In this meeting, the Tamil Nadu side has demanded that Karnataka should open the Cauvery water. The Tamil Nadu side has informed that it should not be taken into account as the surplus water was given.
