Chief Minister Stalin launched the Tamil Puthalvan scheme
- Chief Minister M.K.Stalin launched the Tamil Phutulavan project in Coimbatore. Subsequently, the Chief Minister gave a grant of Rs. 1000.
- Later, addressing the program, Chief Minister Stalin said that yesterday he had ordered Rs.1000 to be credited to the bank account of the students before coming to the inauguration ceremony.
- The Waqf Board Amendment Bill was tabled in the Lok Sabha on Thursday. It was filed by Kiran Rijiju, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Welfare.
- The amendment bill proposes various important changes in the functioning of Waqf Boards, including transparency, ensuring representation of Muslim women and non-Muslims on the board, and regulating the powers of the board.
- But opposition parties including Congress and DMK strongly opposed this bill saying it is against minorities. Later, as requested by the opposition, Minister Kiran Rijiju agreed to send the bill to a joint parliamentary committee for consideration.
- Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem wins gold in men's javelin at Paris Olympics. Neeraj Chopra threw the maximum distance of 89.45 meters. Arshad Nadeem set a new Olympic record with a throw of 92.97m.
- Neeraj Chopra failed in five of his six attempts. His throw of 89.45m in his second attempt earned him the medal. Grenada's Antonson Peters won the bronze medal with a throw of 88.54m.
