Himachal Pradesh government has passed a bill to raise the marriageable age of women to 21
- Under the 2006 Act to prevent child marriages, the average age of marriage for men was set at 21 and for women at 18. In order to change this, in 2021, the Union Government approved raising the marriage age of women to 21, equal to that of men. It is still not implemented due to opposition from some quarters.
- In this context, the Himachal Pradesh government has unanimously passed a bill to increase the average age of marriage for women to 21. To ensure gender equality, the state government has announced that the marriage age has been raised to ensure that women should progress equally in education and career.
- First indigenously built pollution control vessel in Goa is launched on 29th August 2024. The ship was built by Goa Shipbuilding for the Indian Coast Guard. The vessel will help prevent oil spills in the country's coastal areas. In the presence of Minister of State for Defense Mr. Sanjay Seth, Mrs. Neeta Seth named the vessel 'Samudra Pratap'.
- India's leading shipyard GSL has signed a contract to build two pollution control vessels for the Indian Coast Guard at a cost of Rs 583 crore. This is the first time that these ships are being designed and built indigenously.
- The vessel has been designed and built by Goa Shipbuilding to meet the specific requirements of the Indian Coast Guard. Measuring 114.5 meters in length and 16.5 meters in breadth, the ship will displace 4170 tonnes.
