Kooturavu Mobile App was launched by Minister for Cooperatives KR Periyakaruppan
  • Under the chairmanship of Minister of Cooperatives KR.Periyagaruppan, a review meeting regarding the announcements of Cooperatives was held at the office of Tamil Nadu Cooperatives Union, Killipakkam, Chennai. 
  • In this meeting, Minister for Co-operatives KR Periyakaruppan consulted with Additional Registrars, Joint Auditors and Managing Directors of Central Co-operative Banks and inquired about the current status of Co-operative Notifications announced in the past.
  • Cooperatives Minister KR Periyakaruppan launched an app called "Kooturavu" to make the general public and members aware of the services provided by cooperative societies.
National Award for Best Writing for two people from Tamil Nadu
  • Former President of India Radhakrishnan's birthday on Sept. 5th is celebrated as Teacher's Day every year. On this day, the best teachers will be honored with National Good Teacher Awards on behalf of the Central Government. Similarly, Dr. Radhakrishnan Award is also given at the state level in Tamil Nadu.
  • Applications for the current year's National Teacher of the Year Award were received from teachers across the country last June. Since then, 50 deserving candidates have been nominated for the award. Union Education Ministry released its detailed list on Tuesday.
  • According to this, in Tamil Nadu, Vellore District Kudiatham Circle Rajakuppam Panchayat Union Middle School Teacher R. Gopinath, Madurai District Lakshmipuram TVS High School Teacher R. Muralitharan has also been announced with the National Good Teacher Award. 
  • It is to be noted that President Draupadi Murmur will be felicitated at the Teacher's Day Festival to be held at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on 5th September. Also, the award-winning teachers are given a cash prize of Rs.50,000, a silver medal and a certificate.
Jay Shah has been selected as the President of the International Cricket Council (ICC)
  • Craig Barclay's tenure as the International Cricket Council (ICC) president for the 2nd term is set to end on November 30.

Srinivasan appointed as NSG Director General
  • Senior IPS officer P Srinivasan was appointed as the Director General of the National Security Force (NSG) on Tuesday. A 1992-passed Bihar IPS officer, Ivar is currently serving as the director of the Bihar Police Academy in Rajgir. 
  • Nalin Prabhat, who was appointed as Director General of NSG last April, was appointed as Jammu and Kashmir Police Chief on August 15. Subsequently, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Director General Anish Dayal Singh was additionally handed over the post of NSG Director General.
Satish Kumar appointed as Railway Board Chairman
  • Indian Railway Management Service officer Satish Kumar was appointed as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Railway Board on Tuesday.
  • Senior officials of the board said that for the first time a person from the Scheduled Caste community has been appointed as the Chairman of the Railway Board.
  • The Union Cabinet Committee on Appointments on Tuesday approved the appointment of Satish Kumar as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Railway Board as the tenure of Jaya Vama Sinha, the current chairman, ends on August 31.
  • In 1986, he was appointed as the General Manager of the North Central Railway Department in November 2022, an officer of the Mechanical Engineers Service Department of the Indian Railways.
Union Cabinet approves two new routes and a multi-track scheme in Indian Railways
  • Prime Minister Mr. In a meeting of the Union Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Narendra Modi, 3 (three) projects of the Ministry of Railways with a total estimate of Rs.6,456 crore were approved.
  • The approved projects will improve transport efficiency by connecting unconnected areas. Increase the capacity of existing railway lines and improve transport networks. As a result, supply chains will be streamlined and economic growth will accelerate.
  • 3 (three) projects covering 7 districts in 4 states namely Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh will increase the existing network of Indian Railways by about 300 km.
  • Along with these projects, 14 new stations will be constructed. It will improve connectivity to 2 (two) developing districts (Nuwapada and East Singhbum). The new route projects will provide connectivity to around 1,300 villages and around 11 lakh people. The multi-monitor project will improve connectivity to around 1,300 villages and around 19 lakh people.
Union Cabinet approves 12 Industrial Terminal Cities under National Industrial Highway Development Scheme
  • The Union Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi approved 12 new projects under the National Industrial Corridor Development Scheme with an investment of Rs 28,602 crore. T
  • he move is set to transform the country's industrial environment, creating a strong infrastructure of industrial nodes and cities that will significantly boost economic growth and global competitiveness.
  • These projects are planned in 10 states, along 6 major routes, in an effort to improve its manufacturing capabilities and economic growth. These industrial zones will be located at Gurbia in Uttarakhand, Rajpura-Patiala in Punjab, Diki in Maharashtra, Palakkad in Kerala, Agra and Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, Gaya in Bihar, Zaheerabad in Telangana, Orwagal and Kopardi in Andhra Pradesh and Jodhpur-Pali in Rajasthan.
Union Cabinet approves launch of new private commercial radio channels in 234 cities
  • The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the proposal to conduct the 3rd batch of electronic auction for 730 frequencies in 234 new cities at a cost of Rs 784.87 crore under the third phase of private sector radio auction.
  • The Cabinet also approved a proposal to levy an annual license fee (ALF) for commercial spectrum at 4% of gross revenue excluding Goods and Services Tax (GST). This applies to all 234 new cities.
  • In these 234 cities private commercial radio channels have not been launched yet. Now that it has been approved, the broadcast requirement for community radio in these cities will be fulfilled. They also broadcast local content in mother tongue.
  • 730 channels have been approved for launch in 234 cities and towns across 28 states and union territories. The Cabinet has approved the bidding for 3 frequencies each in 11 cities in Tamil Nadu.
Union Cabinet approves phase-by-step expansion of Agriculture Infrastructure Fund
  • The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today approved the expansion of the Union Government Department's financial scheme under the scheme 'Agricultural Infrastructure Fund' to make it more attractive, impactful and inclusive.
  • As a significant step to improve and strengthen agricultural infrastructure in the country and support the farming community, the government has announced a series of measures to expand the scope of the Agricultural Infrastructure Fund Scheme. 
  • These efforts aim to expand the scope of eligible programs and integrate additional support measures to foster a robust agricultural infrastructure ecosystem.
Union Cabinet Approves Central Financial Assistance for Equitable Participation of State Governments in Northeast Region to Develop Hydropower Projects in Northeast Region
  • The Union Cabinet meeting chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Power to provide Central Government Financial Assistance (CFA) through joint venture cooperation between the State Corporations and Central Public Sector Undertakings to ensure equal contribution to the North Eastern States to develop hydropower projects in the North Eastern region.
  • The project will be implemented from FY 2024-25 to FY 2031-32 at a cost of Rs.4136 crore. A total hydropower capacity of around 15,000 MW will be supported under the scheme. 
  • The project will be funded through 10% Gross Budgetary Support (GBS) for the North Eastern Region from the total allocation of the Ministry of Power.
