The 16th Cabinet meeting was chaired by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin
- Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. The 16th Cabinet meeting was held today (13-8-2024) at the Chief Secretariat under the chairmanship of Stalin. In this Cabinet meeting, 15 investment schemes were approved for setting up new industries in various districts of Tamil Nadu.
- These investments will create employment for 24,700 people. 15 companies in the fields of automobiles, electronics, food processing, renewable energy components and battery manufacturing will invest in Tamil Nadu to the tune of Rs 44,125 crore.
- Following the World Investors Conference held at the beginning of this year, Tamil Nadu Government is bringing many new investments to Tamil Nadu and thereby creating jobs for the youth.
- On behalf of the Energy Department, the new policies Tamil Nadu Hydroelectric Power Projects (PSP) Policy 2024, Tamil Nadu Short Tunnel Power Projects (SHP) Policy 2024, Tamil Nadu Wind Power Plant Renewal and Life Extension Policy 2024 were approved in the cabinet meeting.
- IAS officer SK Prabhakar has been appointed as the new chairman of the Tamil Nadu Government Selection Board. The ordinance was issued after Governor RK Ravi approved the recommendation of the Tamil Nadu government.
- It is to be noted that Prabhakar was working as Commissioner of Revenue Administration. His tenure is till January 2028. A 1989 batch IAS officer, Prabhakar hails from Virudhunagar district.
- A draft of the Broadcasting Services (Regulation) Bill was released last November to regulate social media such as Facebook and Instagram. Opposition parties including the Congress strongly opposed the Bill as an attempt to suppress the voice of social media.
- Digital media companies and civil society organizations have also alleged that they were not consulted on the move. Complaints arose from many quarters that the bill was against freedom of speech and expression.
- Following this, reports have surfaced that the Union Government has now withdrawn this draft bill. In the meantime, in the X report published by the Department of Information and Broadcasting, it is stated, "The consultation on the draft bill has been extended till October 15. A new draft bill will be released after detailed consultation."
- The Union Water Resources Minister Mr. CR Patil launched the 'Floodwatch India' mobile application 2.0 developed by the Central Water Resources Authority in New Delhi today. On 17 August 2023, it launched the first edition of the mobile application to inform the public on real-time basis about the flood situation in the country and up to 7-day flood forecasts.
- The first app provided information about flood forecasts at 200 level forecast stations. The second app provides current information from an additional 392 flood monitoring stations. A total of 592 flood watches provide information.
- Thus, it provides users with a comprehensive overview of flood conditions across the country. It also provides additional information on water levels of 150 major reservoirs in the country. This will help to better understand the flood situation in low-lying areas.
- Provides all information in 2 languages English and Hindi. Available in readable and light format. The app also provides flood forecast for nearby location.
- As part of a move to promote digital health education across India, the National Health Authority (NHA) and the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) have signed an MoU. Union Health Minister Mr. J. B. The agreement was signed today (13-08-2024) in the presence of Natta.
- According to this, the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences will conduct a digital foundation course with a view to take the Ayushman Bharat digital movement more to the masses.
- National Health Commission and Maharashtra University of Health Sciences will jointly carry out digital health activities. The MoU also proposes to develop more courses in digital health in future.
