Consumer Price Index for July 2024
- The All India Consumer Price Index for July 2024 (based on 2012=100) showed a decline in the inflation rate this year compared to last year. This is the lowest in the last 59 months. The annual inflation rate based on the All India Consumer Price Index is 3.54% (provisional) in July 2024.
- The corresponding inflation rate is 4.10% in rural areas. In urban areas it is 2.98%. Food inflation for July 2024 was the lowest since June 2023. The annual inflation rate based on All India Consumer Food Price Index is 5.42% (provisional) in July 2024. Inflation rate in rural areas was 5.89% and in urban areas it was 4.63%.
- Inflation declined for all segments in July 2024. There has been a significant decline in vegetables, fruits, spices etc. Price data from 1181 villages covering 1114 selected urban markets, all states, union territories are collected through weekly survey by field staff of field operations unit of National Statistics Office.
- In July 2024, the Office for National Statistics collected price data from 100% rural and 98.5% urban markets. At the same time the market wise price profile was 88.71% for rural areas and 92.64% for urban areas.
- For June 2024, industrial production index with base 2011-12 stands at 150.0 against 143.9 in June 2023. Indices of industrial production for June 2024 for mining, manufacturing and power sectors stood at 134.9, 145.3 and 222.8 respectively.
- By usage-based classification, June 2024 had indices of 156.0 for primary goods, 110.0 for capital goods, 159.0 for intermediate goods and 178.4 for infrastructure/construction goods. Also, indices for consumer durables and non-consumer durables stood at 126.9 and 144.6 respectively in June 2024.
- Industrial production growth rate for June 2024 was 4.2 percent over the corresponding period of the previous year. The corresponding growth rates of industrial production growth by use-based classification in June 2024 over June 2023 were 6.3 per cent in primary goods, 2.4 per cent in capital goods, 3.1 per cent in intermediate goods, 4.4 per cent in infrastructure/construction goods, 8.6 per cent in consumer equipment and -1.4 per cent in consumer durables.
- The Center has declared August 23 as "National Space Day" to celebrate Chandrayaan-3's superlative success, which accomplished the safe and smooth landing of the Vikram lander and landed the Pragyan rover on the lunar surface near the South Pole.
- This historic achievement places India in an elite group of spacefaring nations. With this landing, India became the fourth country to land on the Moon and the first country to land on the South Pole of the Moon.
- The achievement is being celebrated across the country in the months of July and August 2024 with an aim to engage and inspire the younger generation in the field of space science and technology.
- The 10th edition of the India-Sri Lanka joint military exercise Mitra Shakti began today at the Military Training School in Maduru Oya, Sri Lanka. The exercise is scheduled to be held from 12th to 25th August 2024.
- The 106-strong Indian contingent is represented by soldiers from the Rajputana Rifles battalion and other arms and services. The Sri Lanka Brigade is attended by soldiers from the Gajaba Regiment of the Sri Lankan Army. Joint Training Mitra Shakti is an annual training event held alternately in India and Sri Lanka. The last edition was held in Pune in November 2023.
- The objective of this joint exercise is to enhance the joint military capability of both sides to conduct counter-insurgency operations in a sub-conventional setting under Chapter Seven of the United Nations mandate. This training will focus on operations in a semi-urban environment.
- The 33rd Olympic Games started in Paris on the 26th of last month. 10,714 players from 206 countries participated in this. The games which were held for the last 16 days ended yesterday. More than 80,000 fans watched the closing ceremony at the Stade de France in Paris.
- A spectacular parade of sportsmen and women was held on the occasion of the closing ceremony. In this parade ceremony Manu Bhakar, who won 2 bronze medals in shooting on behalf of the Indian team, Sri Jesh, the goal keeper of the Indian hockey team who won the bronze, carried the national flag.
- The 5 rings, the Olympic symbol, were lit up with colored lights. Venice Beach has hosted concerts by the likes of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Billie Eilish, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre. The acrobats and circus shows attracted the audience. 5-time Grammy Award-winning American singer Gabriella Sarmiento Wilson, better known as H.E.R.
- He entertained the fans by singing the national anthem. Then the flame for the Paris Olympics was extinguished. Then, Hollywood actor Tom Cruise, who jumped from the roof of the stadium, carried the Olympic flag while traveling on a motorcycle and handed it over to Karen Bass, the mayor of Los Angeles, USA, which will host the 2028 Olympics.
- The last event of the ceremony was the extinguishing of the burning Olympic torch and the end of the Paris Olympic Games. After that, the fireworks that were held in the stadium lit up the night and created awe.
- French President Emmanuel Macron, his wife Brigitte Macron, International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach and Olympic and Paralympic Organizing Committee President Tony Stanquet participated in the ceremony.
- The United States leads the medal list at the Paris Olympics with 126 medals (40 gold, 44 silver, 42 bronze). China is second with 91 medals (40 gold, 27 silver and 24 bronze).
- Japan finished third in the medal tally with a total of 45 medals, including 20 gold. There are around 114 countries that have not won a medal in this Olympics. In these Olympics, India finished 71st with a total of 6 medals including 1 silver and 5 bronze.
- England pacer Gus Atkinson, India's Washington Sundar and Scotland's Charlie Cassel are in the running for the ICC Player of the Month award for July. Out of the three, England fast bowler Gus Atkinson won the Player of the Month award for July.
