Consumer Price Index for April 2024

• The Ministry of Labor and Employment today released the Consumer Price Index for February, March and April 2024. Inflation was 4.20 percent in March 2024 compared to 5.79 percent in March 2023. Inflation for April 2024 was 3.87 percent, compared to 5.09 percent in April 2023.
• Inflation for February 2024 is 4.90 percent as compared to 6.16 percent in February 2023, according to a report released by the Ministry of Labour.
• The Ministry of Labor and Employment compiles the Consumer Price Index for industrial workers every month based on retail prices collected from 317 markets spread over 88 industrially important centers of the country. While the indices for the months of February, March and April 2024 have been published in the report.
• The All India Consumer Price Index for February 2024 increased by 0.3 points to 139.2 points. The index for March 2024 was down 0.3 points at 138.9 points. The All India Consumer Price Index for April 2024 rose 0.5 points to 139.4.

Carlsen is the champion for the 6th time - in Norwegian chess classical game

• Five times world champion Magnus Carlsen (Norway), current world champion Ding Liren (China) and India's Pragnananda participated in the open category in the international chess series held in Norway.
• In the 10-round event, Magnus Carlsen won the men's title with 17.5 points. Carlsen, who faced American Fabiano Garana in the last round, was drawn in the classical game and went to Arcamedon.
• Carlsen won the Norwegian Chess Championship for the 6th time. Carlsen topped with 17.5 points followed by Nakamura with 15.5 points and India's Pragnananda with 14.5 points. Defending world champion Ding Liren finished sixth.
• Carlsen won the Norwegian Chess Classical Game for the first time in 2016 and won the title consecutively in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2024. Only in 2023 did Hikaru Nakamura win the title.
• China's Zhu Wenjun won the women's title with 19 points. India's Vaishali is 4th with 12.5 points and Koneru Hampi is 5th with 10 points in women's category.
