3rd June will be observed as Semmozhi Day - Tamil Nadu Govt Notification
  • The Tamil Development and Information Minister M. P. Saminathan has announced that June 3, which is the birthday of late former Chief Minister Karunanidhi, will be observed as Semmozhi Day.
  • Also, from next year, January 25th will be observed as Tamil Language Martyrs' Day, Minister M.B. Saminathan announced.

World Bank funds Rs 12,500 crore to improve primary health care services in Sri Lanka
  • The World Bank's Board of Directors has approved a US$ 150 million (Rs 12,500 crore in Indian value) financing to improve the quality and increase utilization of primary health care services in Sri Lanka, according to a statement issued by the bank.
  • The World Bank on Monday approved the scheme, which will help increase the utilization of primary health care facilities that provide essential health services to the local population and improve the quality of service they provide.
  • A World Bank-supported program for essential medical equipment, drugs, testing facilities and health workforce development is already underway in 550 health centers in Sri Lanka. 
  • According to the World Bank report, this new program will be implemented in more than 1,000 health centers across Sri Lanka to serve 100 percent of the population.
