53rd Meeting of GST Council

  • The 53rd meeting of the GST Council was held in Delhi under the chairmanship of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Union Finance Ministers, State Finance Ministers and others participated in this. Finance Minister Thangam Tennarasu participated on behalf of Tamil Nadu.
  • In this meeting, it was decided to levy a uniform 12 percent GST on all types of milk cans like steel, iron, aluminum, regardless of their usage. GST on cartons is reduced from 18 percent to 12 percent.
  • It has been decided to levy 12 percent GST on all types of sprinklers including all types of solar electric cookers and fire sprinklers. A 5 percent integrated GST is to be levied on imports of aircraft-related goods.
  • It has been decided to exempt from GST services such as platform tickets, restrooms, storage services, battery-powered car services and intra-railway transactions provided to passengers at railway stations.
  • It has been decided to exempt from GST the charges of students staying in hostels operated outside educational institutions for students. It has been announced that this will be applicable to students with a fee of up to Rs 20,000 per month and a minimum stay of 90 consecutive days.
  • In order to reduce the number of cases related to GST, it has been announced that appeals can be made to the GST Appellate Tribunal for matters up to Rs 20 lakh. Cases up to Rs 1 crore can be filed in the High Court and cases up to Rs 2 crore can be filed in the Supreme Court.
  • In cases where notices have been sent for payment of GST for the period from 2017-18 to 2019-20, if the tax is paid by March 31, 2025, it will be exempted from interest and penalty. Import of certain categories of goods for defense forces is exempted from integrated GST for another 5 years.
Launched the Trusted Air Passenger Program
  • Passengers have to wait for a long time due to various security procedures being followed at international airports in India. To address this issue, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Department of Civil Aviation have jointly launched a new program called 'Trusted Air Passenger' (FTI-DTP).
  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched the 'Trusted Air Traveller' program at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. 
The Pushpak launch vehicle, which carries satellites into space and returns to Earth, is a successful test
  • The test landing of RLV LEX-03 was conducted today (Sunday) at 7.10 am at the Aeronautical Test Range (ATR) in Chitradurga, Karnataka. The winged RLV, named Pushpak, was released from an Indian Air Force Chinook helicopter at an altitude of 4.5 km. The RLV vehicle landed successfully despite strong wind conditions.
  • With this, ISRO has successfully demonstrated the launch of a rocket capable of carrying satellites into space and back to earth. With this, ISRO has successfully tested the landing test of the Reusable Launch Vehicle (Pushpak) for the third time.
Archery World Cup - Gold Medal for Women's Team
  • The Archery World Cup is being held in Antalya, Turkey. The Indian team consisting of Jyoti Sureka, Aditi Swamy and Parneet Kaur played against the Estonian team in the final of the women's compound team category.
  • The Indian women's team won the gold medal with a score of 232-229. Indian women's team has won the gold medal for the 3rd time in a row in the World Cup series. The Indian women's team won the gold medal in the World Cup series held in Shanghai, China in April and the World Cup series held in Yecheon, Korea in May.
