Formation of one-man inquiry committee to probe death of liquor in Kallakurichi - Chief Minister Stalin's order
  • A person named Kannukutty has been selling counterfeit liquor in Karunapuram area of Kallakurichi. Some people who bought and drank this had vomiting, stomach pain and diarrhea and were subsequently admitted to the hospital. 36 people have died so far.
  • Many political leaders have expressed their condolences to the victims and their families. In this case, the Chief Minister said that the families of those who died after drinking liquor will be given financial assistance of Rs. 10 lakh each and those who are undergoing treatment in the hospital will also be given relief of Rs. 50,000 each.
  • Also, Chief Minister Stalin has ordered a one-man commission headed by retired Justice Gokuldas in the case of 36 deaths due to consumption of fake liquor in Kallakurichi.
Tamil Nadu ranks 3rd in terms of setting up wind power plants in the country in the financial year 2023-24
  • World Wind Day was recently celebrated in Delhi on behalf of the Central Department of New and Renewable Energy. In this event, Tamil Nadu was awarded the 3rd place in setting up wind power plants in the country in the financial year 2023-24.
  • Tamil Nadu Electricity Board Chairman Rajesh Lakhani received the award from Union Minister of State Pad Yaso Naik.
  • Last year, 586 MW of wind power plants were set up in Tamil Nadu. It is noteworthy that during the same period, the state of Gujarat has occupied the first position with 1,600 MW and Karnataka has occupied the 2nd position with 700 MW.
Appointment of Retired Chief Justice S. Manikumar as Chairman of Tamil Nadu State Human Rights Commission
  • After the retirement of Bhaskar, who was the Chairman of Human Rights Commission of Tamil Nadu, S. from Tamil Nadu who retired as Chief Justice of Kerala High Court. Manikumar has been appointed. The order for this was given by the Governor of Tamil Nadu R.N. Ravi has given birth.
  • Already S. Manikumar was a senior judge of Madras High Court. Subsequently, he was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court from here. After retiring there, he was nominated for the post of Chairman of the Tamil Nadu State Human Rights Commission. Subsequently, he has now been appointed as the Chairman of the Tamil Nadu State Human Rights Commission.

Union Cabinet approves National Forensic Infrastructure Development Plan
  • In the Union Cabinet meeting held today (19.06.2024) under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, for the period from 2024-25 to 2028-29, a total allocation of Rs.2254.43 crores was approved by the Central Government as "National Forensic Science Infrastructure Development Project". The proposal for the project was approved. The scheme will be implemented by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
  • Under this scheme Creation of National Forensic Science University Campuses in the country, establishment of Central Forensic Science Laboratories in the country. The Cabinet has approved the implementation of the works for upgrading the existing infrastructure at the Delhi campus of the National Forensic University.
Union Cabinet approves development of Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi
  • The Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today (19.06.2024) approved the proposal of Airports Authority of India for development of Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi.
  • It is planned to increase the passenger handling capacity of the airport from 39 lakh to 99 lakh per annum. The cost for this is estimated at Rs.2869.65 crore. The new terminal building with an area of 75,000 square meters will be designed to handle 5000 passengers at a time.
  • The project also includes works including extending the runway. Varanasi Airport will be developed as a Green Airport with the primary objective of ensuring environmental sustainability.
Union Cabinet approves feasibility gap financing for implementation of offshore wind energy projects
  • The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today approved the feasibility gap financing for the implementation of offshore wind energy projects.
  • A total of 500 MW each in Tamil Nadu and Gujarat for a total of one gigawatt of offshore wind energy projects, installation and operation of Rs. 6853 crore including a total allocation of Rs. 7453 crores.
  • The project, when successfully implemented, can generate 372 crore units of renewable electricity annually. This will reduce CO2 emissions by 2.98 million tonnes per year over the next 25 years.
Union Cabinet approves Minimum Support Price for Kharif crops for 2024-25 marketing season
  • The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today (19.06.2024) approved the Minimum Support Price for Kharif crops for the 2024-25 marketing season.
  • Oilseeds and pulses have been recommended for higher minimum support prices this year than last year. Accordingly, the price of sesame per quintal is Rs. 632nd, price of wild sesame (Niger seed) per quintal is Rs. 983 per quintal of pulses at Rs. 550 will also increase.
  • The price of paddy per quintal is Rs. 117th, corn price per quintal Rs. 191, the selling price per quintal is Rs. 444th, maize price per quintal was Rs. 135th, Payadam dal price per quintal Rs. 124 will also increase.
  • In terms of oilseeds, groundnut price per quintal is Rs. 406th, the price of sunflower seed per quintal is Rs. 520th, price of soybean (yellow) seed per quintal is Rs. 292 will also increase.
  • The price of medium staple and long staple cotton per quintal is Rs. 501 will increase. The Union Cabinet has approved an increase in the minimum support price for kharif crops for the 2024-25 marketing season in line with the announcement in the Union Budget 2018-19 to increase the minimum support price by at least 1.5 times the all-India average cost of production.
Union Cabinet approves construction of all-weather green port at Vadawan in Maharashtra
  • The Union Cabinet meeting chaired by the Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi today (19.06.2024) approved the construction of a major port at Vadawan near Thakanu in Maharashtra. The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority and the Maharashtra Maritime Board will jointly set up the port.
  • The total estimate for the project is Rs.76,220 crore. The port will have nine 1000 meter long cargo vault terminals and four multi-purpose terminals including a coastal vault terminal. The port is planned to handle 298 million metric tonnes of cargo per annum.
