International Conference on Sustaining Peace in Ukraine 2024 - Day 2
- The war between Russia and Ukraine has been going on for more than 2 years. In this case, an international conference was held on 15th and 16th of June at Hotel Pakenstock in Switzerland to establish peace in Ukraine. Russia was not invited to participate in the conference.
- Due to this, China, which has been closely appreciating the friendship with the country, did not participate in the conference. Around 100 dignitaries from mostly western countries and some important developing countries participated in the conference.
- The conference continued for the 2nd day on Sunday. At that time, talks were held on ways to bring peace to Ukraine, exchange of prisoners of war between Russia and Ukraine, nuclear security, export of food items from Ukraine, etc.
- In a joint statement issued at the end of the conference, 80 countries insisted that regional unity should be the basis of any peace deal to end the Russia-Ukraine war. UN Respect for the Charter, territorial integrity and sovereignty will be the basis for achieving a lasting peace in Ukraine, the joint statement said.
- Although India, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates participated in the Switzerland conference, they did not sign the joint statement.
