Inscription discovery of Adita Karikala Chola
  • A team including Professor Ramesh of Anna Government Arts College History Department and Graduate Researcher Iman found the inscription of Aditha Karikala Chola during the restoration work at Vedapureeswarar temple in Emapur village near Villupuram.
  • It has already been found in places like Barangayur and Thirumundeeswaram. Now one more inscription has been found.
  • "The inscription begins 'Goparakesari with the head of Swasti Sri Veerapandiyan'. The inscription dated 960 AD, the fourth regnal year of his reign, calls the town as Emapperur Nattu Emapperur in the country of Thiru Dhupappadi. It is the capital of a country.
  • "Emapperur is now known as Emapur. The inscription mentions that 96 goats were handed over to Pan Maheswarar who managed this temple in order to light a Nanda lamp until Nigarili Murthy Surya Chandra was present in this place. It is known from these that Adittha Karikalan ruled the region.
Construction of the first next-generation deep sea patrol vessel began at the Goa shipyard on May 3
  • The construction of the first next-generation deep-sea patrol vessel took place yesterday, May 3, at Goa Shipbuilding Corporation (GSL) in Goa. The function was presided over by Vice Admiral P Sivakumar, Controller of Warship Production and Acquisition, in the presence of Mr PK Upadhyay, Chairman and Managing Director, GSL and other senior officers of the Indian Navy and GSL.
  • Contracts for the indigenous design and construction of 11 Next Generation Patrol Vessels (NGOPVs) were finalized on March 30, 2023 between Goa Shipyard Limited of Goa and Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) of Kolkata.
  • These deep sea patrol vessels will be used to carry out tasks such as anti-piracy, coastal defense and surveillance, search and rescue and protection of coastal assets. 
  • These ships will help the Indian Navy maintain its combat capability to protect the nation's economic and geopolitical interests in the Indian Ocean region. This is a significant milestone in the Indian Navy's initiative for indigenous shipbuilding, 'Self-Reliance India' and 'Make in India'.
