Moon's North Polar Regions Have More Water - ISRO Study Finds
- A study conducted by ISRO's Space Application Center Division, IIT Kanpur, IIT Thanbad, University of California, Jet Propulsion Laboratory has reported that there is more water in the north polar regions of the moon than in the south polar regions.
- It has been reported that the ice blocks a few feet below the surface of the Moon are 5-8 times larger than the ice blocks in the polar regions, so the South Pole region will be drilled into the surface to study them. Chandrayaan 4 is the ISRO's plan to drill and research the ground at the South Pole.
- It has been reported that the north polar regions of the moon have twice as much water frozen as ice than the south polar regions.
- Unconfirmed scientific studies suggest that outgassing from volcanic eruptions in the southern polar regions of the Moon about 38,000 million years ago may have been the main cause of these ice formations. This is what ISRO's current research results reveal.
