Appointments Committee of Cabinet approves extension of Army Chief Manoj Pandey's tenure by one month till June 30, 2024
- The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet on May 26, 2024 extended the tenure of Chief of Army Staff General Manoj C Pandey for a period of one month, beyond his normal retirement age (May 31, 2024), i.e. till June 30, 2024, under Rule 16 A (4) of the Army Rules, 1954. approved the extension under
- He was appointed as the Chief of Army Staff on April 30, 2022. He was commissioned in the Corps of Engineers (The Bombay Choppers) in December 1982. He served as Deputy Chief of Army Staff before taking charge as the Army Chief.
- Indian gymnast Deepa Karmakar created a new history by winning the gold medal in women's vault at the Asian Gymnastics Championships 2024 held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on Sunday (May-26).
- This is the first time that an Indian athlete has won gold at the Asian Gymnastics Championships. This is Deepa Karmakar's 2nd medal at the Asian Gymnastics Championships. It is noteworthy that earlier in 2015 he had won bronze in the same vault category.
- Deepa Karmakar scored 13.566 points and won gold in this final. He was followed by South Korea's Kim Sun Hyang with 13.466 points to win the silver medal and Geo Kyong Byal with 12.966 points to win the bronze medal.
- Deepa Karmakar, who won the gold medal in the Asian Gymnastics Championships, has not qualified for the Olympic Games to be held in Paris this year. In the 'All-round' category, he scored 46.166 points to rank 16th.
- Due to this, Emma Malapuyo of the Philippines, who came 3rd in the all-round category, scored 50.398 points and missed out on a chance at the Paris Olympics.
