India's engineering exports to rise to $10,931 crore in FY 2023-24
  • India's exports of engineering goods rose to $10,931 crore in the last financial year 2023-24, despite a slowdown in some key markets due to international tensions. It was Rs 10,704 crore in the previous financial year 2022-23. 
  • Compared to that, the country's exports of engineering materials have grown by 2.13 percent. Last financial year saw a slowdown in key export markets due to the war in Gaza and Ukraine.
Candidate Chess Series 2024
  • The Candidates Chess Series was held in Toronto, Canada to choose the player to play against the World Champion. In this 14-round series, Indian Grandmaster D. Gukesh clashed with American Hikaru Nakamura in his last round. Playing with black pieces, Gukesh ended the game in a draw on the 71st piece move.
  • 17-year-old D. Gukesh won the title by scoring 9 points. Gukesh, who won the title of champion in the candidates series, was awarded a prize money of around Rs.78.50 lakhs. With this, Gukesh also got the honor of being the 2nd Indian player to win the Candidates Series title. Prior to this, 5-time world champion Viswanathan Anand had won in 2014.
  • And after 40 years, 17-year-old Gukesh also became the youngest player to qualify for the World Championship title. Through this he also got the honor of being the youngest Grand Master of India.
  • China's Zongxi Tan won the women's Candidates title with 9 points. Indian Grand Masters Koneru Hampi, R. Vaishali and Tingzhi Lei of China shared the 2nd position with 7.5 points each. Koneru Hampi defeated China's Dingjay Lei in the final round. Vaishali also defeated Katrina Lucknow of Russia.
  • In the Candidates series, Hikaru Nakamura of the United States, Nepomniachi of Russia and Fabiano Caruna of the United States took the 2nd to 4th places with 8.5 points each. India's R. Pragnananda finished 5th with 7 points. He defeated Azerbaijan's Nijad Abasov in his last round.
  • Another Indian Grandmaster, Vidit Gujarati finished the series with 6 points and 6th place. Vidit Gujarati had drawn his last round match against France's Firozja Alireza. Firozeja Alireza finished 7th with 5 points and Nijat Abasov finished last with 3.5 points.
Agreement between C-DOT and IIT Jodhpur
  • Central Telecom Department's premier telecom research and development center C-DOT and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur have signed an agreement for "Automated Service Management in 5G Network and Beyond using Artificial Intelligence".
  • The agreement was signed under the Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF) designed to provide financial support to indigenous companies engaged in technology design, development, telecommunication products and commercialization for implementation of affordable broadband and mobile services in rural and remote areas.
  • Its primary objective is to develop artificial intelligence frameworks for automated network management, fault diagnosis and defect detection techniques using persistent information generated in networks such as 5G.
  • Dr. Pankaj Kumar Dalela, Director, C-DOT, and Dr. Sai Kiran, Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT, Jodhpur, were present at the signing ceremony.
