• While the date holds some official status in select member states of the Commonwealth, observances of the date are not uniform across the Commonwealth, and the date is not celebrated as a public holiday in most Commonwealth countries.
• Commonwealth Day is an annual moveable holiday that falls regularly on the second Monday in March, and which takes place on March 11 this year. it promotes a peaceful global environment and hopes to inspire the Commonwealth states for their future with a yearly address by Queen Elizabeth. 
• The holiday was initially conceived in the 1890s as Empire Day, and was originally held on Queen Victoria's birthdate, 24 May, or the last weekday that preceded it. 
• The annual celebration was renamed to Commonwealth Day in 1958 and was moved to its current date, the second Monday in March, in 1977.
