Nayab Singh Saini elected as the new Chief Minister of the state of Haryana
  • Manoharlal Khattar, who was the Chief Minister of the BJP-ruled state of Haryana, resigned this morning. Following this, Nayab Singh Saini has been chosen as the new Chief Minister of the state of Haryana by the BJP MLAs.
  • Nayab Singh Saini is the BJP State President of Aryana. Nayabsingh Saini is also a member of the Lok Sabha from Kurushetra constituency. As far as the state of Aryana is concerned, there are total 90 MLAs. BJP has 41 MLAs and JJP has 10 MLAs. BJP was ruling with them.
  • In this situation, the JJP party left the alliance due to the division of seats in the Lok Sabha elections. With the Lordship needing 45 MLAs, the BJP will regain power with the support of independent MLAs.
The Prime Minister laid foundation stones for various development projects worth Rs.1,06,000 crore in Ahmedabad, Gujarat and dedicated the completed projects to the country

The Prime Minister visited the 'Bharat Shakti' exercise of the tri-armies in Pokhran, Rajasthan
  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi visited an operational demonstration of integration of internal security capabilities in the form of live training of the tri-forces in Pokhran, Rajasthan today. 
  • 'Bharat Shakti' will have an array of indigenous weapon systems and platforms to demonstrate the country's strength based on the country's Self-reliant India initiative.
  • Key equipment and weapon systems of the Indian Army including T-90 (IM) tanks, Dhanush and Sarang gun systems, Akash weapon system, logistics drones, robotic mules, Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) and unmanned aerial vehicles are participating in the exercise.
India's industrial production index to grow by 3.8% in January 2024
  • Flash estimates for the Industrial Production Index in January 2024 are 153.0. Indices of industrial production for the mining, manufacturing and power sectors for January stood at 144.1, 150.1 and 197.1 respectively. 
  • In accordance with the revision policy of the Industrial Production Index, these quick estimates are subject to revisions in subsequent releases.
  • According to the usage-based classification, January had indices of 154.2 for primary goods, 109.2 for capital goods, 163.0 for intermediate goods and 185.0 for infrastructure/construction goods. Also, indices for consumer durables and non-consumer durable goods stood at 120.7 and 163.9 respectively in January.
Agni - 5 missile tests successful
  • The Army Research and Development Organization (DRDO) is involved in the tests of missiles capable of carrying nuclear weapons. DRDO is manufacturing long-range Agni missiles with indigenous technology. 
  • According to this, Agni-1 to 4 missiles, which have been released so far, have a range of 350 to 3,500 km. are capable. Next up, the Agni-5 missile is ready. This missile, which has a range of 3,500 km, has already been inducted into the army.
  • Currently, the Agni-5 missile is equipped with the ability to carry multiple nuclear warheads simultaneously, known as the MIVR, or 'Multi-Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicle'. 
  • This missile can also hit targets at a distance of more than 5,000 km. The intercontinental ballistic missile Agni-5 can be launched from the central part of India, but can reach the northern border of China. All of Asia and parts of Europe can be paid. The project was called 'Mission Divyastra'.
  • This means that a single missile can carry multiple nuclear warheads and hit targets at any location. This missile has the ability to attack very accurately. DRDO said that its test was successful yesterday. 
  • The US, Russia, China, Britain and France are the only countries that have ICBMs with this technology. India is also going to join that list. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated the DRDO scientists who successfully conducted this experiment.
ICC Player of the Month Award February 2024
  • Yashaswi Jaiswal, who showed an excellent performance in the Test series against England, scored an amazing 712 runs in 5 matches. He has achieved many feats in the month of February. Jaiswal equaled Wasim Akram's record for most sixes in an innings in a Test match.
  • He scored 2 double centuries and 3 fifties in this Test series against England. At this stage, he has been announced as the ICC Player of the Month for February.
  • It is noteworthy that Jaiswal has won the ICC Player of the Month Award for February while New Zealander Kane Williamson and Sri Lankan player Padum Nisanka were in the running.
Tripartite MoU between USOF, Prasar Bharti and ONTC
  • The Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) under the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Prasar Bharati and Open Network for Digital Commerce has signed a tripartite MoU to spread affordable and accessible digital services across the country. 
  • The MoU aims to connect broadband services with OTT and e-commerce platform for rural India on BharatNet infrastructure under USOF.
  • The Prime Minister's vision and unwavering commitment to foster an environment conducive to digital innovation underpins this MoU, a truly unique collaboration that integrates connectivity, inclusion and commerce to empower rural India.
  • Secretary, Department of Telecommunications Dr. Neeraj Mittal Mr. Neeraj Verma, Administrator, USOF; The MoU was signed in the presence of Mr. Koshy, Managing Director and CEO, ONTC, Mr. AKJ, Platforms, Prasar Bharti and Mr. Sunil Kumar Verma, Joint Secretary, Department of Telecommunications.
  • USOF plays a key role in enabling high-speed broadband and mobile connectivity in gram panchayats and villages across the country. The MoU will enable services including Prasar Bharti OTT service, live TV and on-demand content, while USOF will ensure efficient and high-speed broadband services in rural and remote areas. 
  • Prasar Bharati, the national public service broadcaster, will source and produce content running on its OTT platform, along with unparalleled traditional content. 
  • The Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), a leader in digital infrastructure, will provide technical expertise and necessary framework for enabling digital commerce in products and services. It will be extended to many other services like education, health, training, credit, insurance, agriculture etc.
