- Prime Minister launched development projects worth Rs 11,600 crore in Guwahati, Assam. Prime Minister Modi launched various projects and laid the foundation stone for some projects.
- Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone for the 'Ma Kamakya Divya Paryojana' scheme to provide world-class facilities to pilgrims visiting the holy places and plans to develop the sports infrastructure of the North Eastern region.
- Also, Prime Minister Modi today (Feb 4) laid the foundation stone for the integrated new building of the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital, which will be built at a cost of Rs 3,250 crore as part of the infrastructure development plan for the medical college and hospital.
- The output of the eight major infrastructure sectors of coal, crude oil, natural gas, refined products, fertilizer, steel, cement and electricity, which account for 40.27 percent of the Industrial Production Index (IIP), recorded a four-month low of 7.8 percent growth last November.
- Meanwhile, output growth in key infrastructure sectors fell to 3.8 percent in December last year. This is the lowest growth in the last 14 months. Production of crude oil, cement, electricity, steel, but also refineries and fertilizers also saw a decline in that month. This resulted in the overall output of key infrastructure sectors registering very low growth.
- The output growth of core infrastructure sectors was 8.3 percent in December 2022. The country's key infrastructure sectors had grown by 12 per cent in the previous month of October.
- The production growth of the eight sectors was 8.1 per cent during the period from April to December of the current financial year. Only natural gas production increased by 6.6 percent in the assessment month from 2.6 percent in December 2022. Crude oil production fell by 1 percent last December.
- The production growth rate of electricity, steel and cement in December 2022 was 10.4 percent, 12.3 percent and 9.5 percent respectively. This is down 0.6 percent, 5.9 percent and 1.3 percent respectively in December 2023, the figures show.
- These eight major sectors alone contribute 40.27 per cent to the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) and the sectors gain prominence.
