Resolutions against One Country One Election, Constituency Reorganization - Unanimous passage in the Assembly
  • The first session of the Tamil Nadu Assembly for the year began yesterday with the Governor's speech. In the third day of the session today, two separate resolutions were brought that no re-delineation of constituencies on the basis of population and no implementation of the same electoral scheme by the same country. These resolutions were proposed and addressed by Chief Minister M.K.Stalin in the Legislative Assembly.
  • Later, a discussion was held in the Assembly on two separate resolutions filed by Chief Minister M.K.Stalin insisting on abandoning 'one country, one election' and constituency reorganization.
  • Speaker Appavu announced that based on the voice vote held, the government's separate resolutions brought by the Chief Minister against the One Country One Election and Constituency Reorganization were unanimously passed in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.
Prime Minister's scheme launched 300 units of free electricity for households producing solar power
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched the 'Prime Minister's Solar House Free Electricity Scheme' to provide 300 units of free electricity every month to one crore households who have installed solar panels on their rooftops.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the Prime Minister's Suryodaya scheme to generate 40,000 megawatts of electricity by installing solar panels on the floors of one crore houses in the country on the 22nd of last month, the day of consecration of the Ayodhya Ram temple idol.
  • The central government will also provide a grant to the family under this scheme. Likewise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched the 'Prime Minister's Solar House Free Electricity Scheme', which will provide 300 units of free electricity to households every month.

Wholesale Price Index Numbers in India for January 2024
  • The annual inflation rate based on the country's Total Price Index stood at 0.27% in January 2024 (up from January 2023). The positive inflation rate in January 2024 is mainly due to increase in prices of food items, machinery and equipment, other manufacturing, minerals, other transport equipment etc.
  • The index for the major group of primary commodities (22.62%) decreased by 1.04% to 181.0 (provisional) in January 2024 from 182.9 (provisional) in December 2023. 
  • Minerals prices increased (0.93%) in January 2024 compared to December 2023. Prices of crude petroleum and natural gas (-0.33%), non-food items (-0.49%) and food items (-1.36%) declined in January 2024 compared to December 2023.
  • The index for the major group of fuel and electricity (weight 13.15%) stood at 154.2 (provisional) in December 2023. 2024 Jan increased by 0.39% to 154.8 (provisional). 
  • Electricity price has increased (3.30%) in January 2024 as compared to December 2023. Prices of coal (-0.37%) and mineral oils (-0.56%) declined in January 2024 compared to December 2023.

  • The Ministry of Defense has today (February 14, 2024) signed an agreement with Kanpur's AWEIL for the manufacture and supply of indigenously manufactured 12.7mm Stabilized Remote Controlled Guns (SRCG) to the Indian Navy and Coast Guard at a total cost of Rs 1752.13 crore.
  • The SRCG will enhance the capability of the Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard to accurately engage small targets that pose a threat to ships in an asymmetric environment.
  • This procurement will further boost the vision of "Self Reliance in Defense Sector". The agreement will create a huge opportunity in defense manufacturing for more than 125 Indian vendors and defense PSUs in 5 years.
8 agreements between India and UAE - signed in the presence of PM Modi-Adil Mohammad
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was on an official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Tuesday, held extensive talks with the country's President Sheikh Mohammed bin Syed Al Nahyan on strengthening bilateral relations.
  • At that time, 8 agreements were signed between the two countries, including an agreement on mutual investment. The Prime Minister participated in the World Summit of Governments 2024
  • On the invitation of UAE Vice President, Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and Ruler of Dubai, Mr. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the World Summit of Governments 2024 on February 14, 2024 in Dubai as the Guest of Honour. He delivered the keynote speech on the theme of the summit, "Shaping the Governments of the Future". The Prime Minister participated as a special guest in the 2018 World Summit of Governments. 20 world leaders including presidents of 10 countries and prime ministers of 10 countries participated in the summit held this time.
