அகத்தியமலை உயிர்க்கோளக் காப்பகம் / AGATHIYAMALAI BIOSPHERE RESERVE: கேரளாவில் 1701 ச.கி. மீட்டரில் பரவியுள்ள இக்காப்பகம் 2001ம் ஆண்டு உயிர்க்கோளக் காப்பகமாக அறிவிக்கப்பட்டது.
இது தமிழ்நாட்டில் கன்னியாகுமரி, திருநெல்வேலி, முன்டந்துறை புலி பாதுகாப்பகம் மற்றும் களக்காடு வனவிலங்கு சரணாலயம் வரை இக்காப்பகத்தின் பரப்பை அதிகரிக்க திட்டமிடப்பட்டுள்ளது.
முட்புதர்க்காடு, ஈர இலையுதிர்க்காடு, பகுதி பசுமைமாறா காடுகளை உள்ளடக்கிய காப்பகத்தில் பல்லுயிர் வளம்மிகுந்து காணப்படுகிறது. அகத்திய கூடத்தை சுற்றியுள்ள இக்காப்பகத்தில் 35க்கும் மேற்பட்ட அழியும் தருவாயில் உள்ள தாவரங்கள் காணப்படுகின்றன.
தாவரங்கள்
அகத்தியமலை உயிர்க்கோளக் காப்பகம் / AGATHIYAMALAI BIOSPHERE RESERVE: இதுவரை 2000 தாவர வகைகள் கண்டறியப்பட்டுள்ளன. இவ்விடத்திற்கே உரித்தான 100 வகைகளும், அரியனவான 50 வகைகளுடன் 30 புதிய தாவர வகைகள் கண்டறியப்பட்டுள்ளன.
ஆடு திண்ணாபாலை, முடக்கற்றான், செங்காந்தள், பாம்புகளா போன்ற மூலிகைகள் காணப்படுகின்றன.
விலங்குகள்
அகத்தியமலை உயிர்க்கோளக் காப்பகம் / AGATHIYAMALAI BIOSPHERE RESERVE: புலி, சிங்கவால் குரங்கு, மலைமொங்கான் மற்றும் தேவாங்கு போன்ற விலங்குகள் காணப்படுகின்றன.

அகத்தியமலை உயிர்க்கோளக் காப்பகம் / AGATHIYAMALAI BIOSPHERE RESERVE: நீர்மின்சக்தி திட்ட எல்லை அருகேயுள்ள பழங்குடியான குடியிருப்புகள், தோட்டப்பயிர்கள் சாகுபடி மற்றும் அகத்திய கூடத்திற்கு யாத்ரீகர்களின் வருகை அதிகரிப்பு போன்றவை மிகப்பெரிய அச்சுறுத்தல்களாகும்.
ENGLISH
AGATHIYAMALAI BIOSPHERE RESERVE: 1701 sq km in Kerala. Spread over meters, this reserve was declared a biosphere reserve in 2001. It is planned to increase the area of this reserve to Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve and Kalakadu Wildlife Sanctuary in Tamil Nadu.
The reserve is rich in biodiversity, comprising scrub forest, moist deciduous forest and semi-evergreen forest. More than 35 endangered species of plants can be found in this reserve around the indoor hall.
Plants
AGATHIYAMALAI BIOSPHERE RESERVE: Over 2000 plant species have been identified so far. Over 100 endemic species and 50 endemic species along with 30 new plant species have been discovered.
Herbs such as goat's milkweed, rhizomes, red pepper, and snakes are found.
Animals
AGATHIYAMALAI BIOSPHERE RESERVE: Animals like tiger, lion and monkey, mountain mongoose and dewang are seen.
Threat
AGATHIYAMALAI BIOSPHERE RESERVE: Tribal settlements near hydropower project boundaries, cultivation of horticulture crops and increase in pilgrims to the shrine are the biggest threats.
