Basmati rice is chosen as the best rice in the world
- Popular food guide agency Taste Atlas has named basmati rice as the world's best rice of 2023-24. India was ranked 11th among the 100 countries with the best food recently published by Taste Atlas.
- Basmati rice with its long, distinctive taste and aroma is mostly produced in the Indian subcontinent. About 34 varieties of Basmati rice are cultivated in India alone. Arborio from Italy and Carolina Rice from Portugal are second and third respectively after basmati.
- The 14th Ministerial Meeting of the India-US Trade Policy Forum (TPF) was held on January 12, 2024 in New Delhi. Commerce and Industry Minister of India Mr. Piyush Goyal and US Trade Representative Ambassador Kathryn Dai co-chaired the TPF meeting.
- Ahead of the delegation-level talks, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry also held a small group meeting with US Trade Representative Ambassador Kathryn Doi.
- The Ministers highlighted that effective implementation of TPF plays an important role in strengthening bilateral trade and enhancing the overall economic partnership between the countries. A joint statement was released after the meeting.
