Appointment of new judge in collegium system
  • The President appoints Supreme Court and Supreme Court judges on the recommendation of a 5-member collegium headed by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Supreme Court Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, who was in this system, completed his work a few days ago. Subsequently, Justice Aniruddha Bose was nominated for the vacant post and appointed in the collegium. 
  • It has been reported that he will hold office till April 10, 2024. At present, the collegium headed by Chief Justice Chandrachud has 5 members namely Justices Sanjeep Khanna, PR Kavi, Suriyakanth and Aniruddha Bose.
Fata 2 Missile - Pakistan's successful test
  • The test of the FATA-2 missile launcher took place on Wednesday. The missiles were successful.
  • Sophisticated electronic devices and efficient guidance instruments are installed in the missile system.400 km. It has been mentioned in the report that these missiles can hit targets up to a distance very accurately. Pakistan's three armed forces have witnessed this missile test in person.
  • It is worth recalling that Pakistan has already successfully tested its Kori missile system last October. The FATA-1 missile system, the predecessor of the currently tested FATA-2 system, was tested for the first time in August 2021.
Union Cabinet approves upgradation and widening of 135 km Gowai-Harina road in Tripura
  • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the improvement and widening of National Highway 208 from Gowai to Harina for a total length of 134.913 km in the state of Tripura.
  • The scheme involves an investment of Rs 2,486.78 crore, of which Rs 1,511.70 crore is debt. The loan will be received from the Japan International Cooperation Agency under the Official Development Assistance Program. 
  • The project will help facilitate better road connectivity between various parts of Tripura and provide alternative access from Tripura to Assam and Meghalaya besides the existing National Highway 8.
Union Cabinet approves construction of 4.56 km 6-lane bridge across river Ganga to connect Bihar's Thika and Sonepur
  • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi approved the construction of a new 4,556 meter long, 6-lane high-level/extra-span cable-stayed bridge across the Ganga River (parallel to the western section of the existing Dikha-Sonepur rail-road bridge) between Patna and Saran (N. H-139W) also approved construction of its approach roads on both sides of the districts.
  • The total cost of the project is Rs 3,064.45 crore, which includes civil construction cost of Rs 2,233.81 crore. The bridge will make transportation faster and easier and will lead to overall development of the state, especially North Bihar.
  • Thika (Patna and located on the south bank of river Ganga) and Sonepur (north bank of river Ganga in Charan district) are now connected by rail and road bridge for movement of light vehicles. 
  • Therefore, the existing road is not usable for goods transport. This is a major economic barrier. By constructing this bridge between Thika and Sonepur, this barrier will be removed. This will increase the economic potential of the region.
