The central government released the tax distribution to the states

  • According to the Union Budget for the financial year 2023-24, the Center is expected to distribute Rs 10.21 lakh crore this fiscal year as tax distribution to the states.
  • In this situation, the central government has distributed an additional installment in the monthly tax distribution given to the states. Accordingly, the Union Finance Ministry has today released Rs.72,961 crore to the states as the second tranche of funds in the month of December.
  • The first installment of tax distribution for the month of December had already been given on December 11. In addition to this, the tax distribution given by the central government this month is reported to be Rs.1.46 lakh crore.
  • In view of the upcoming festivals and New Year, the Center has approved the release of additional installment tax distribution worth Rs 72,961.21 crore to strengthen the arms of the state governments to fund various social welfare activities and infrastructure development projects.
  • This installment is the tax sharing installment due on January 10, 2024 to the states. 2023, this is in addition to the Rs 72,961.21 crore already released on December 11.
  • Accordingly, the maximum Rs.13,088.51 crore has been released to the state of Uttar Pradesh. Bihar Rs 7,338.44 crore, Madhya Pradesh Rs 5,727.44 crore, West Bengal Rs 5,488.88 crore, Maharashtra Rs 4,608.96 crore, Rajasthan Rs 4,396.64 crore and Tamil Nadu Rs 2,976.10 crore have been released.

  • Chandrayaan 3 spacecraft was launched on July 14 by the Indian Space Research Organization to explore the South Pole of the Moon.
  • After a 40-day journey, the lander of the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft landed safely on the moon on August 23. Following this, the rover came out of the lander and landed on the moon and carried out its research work.
  • Various countries of the world appreciated the success of this effort of the Indian Space Research Organization ISRO. In this situation, Iceland has honored ISRO with the highest prize in appreciation of the success of Chandrayaan 3.
  • Iceland's Húsavík City Research Museum has awarded ISRO the prestigious award '2023- Leap Ericsson Lunar'. Indian Ambassador to Iceland P. Shyam received the prize on behalf of ISRO.
Passage of bill to facilitate press registration procedure
  • Parliament on Thursday passed a bill to simplify the procedure for registration of newspapers and periodicals. The bill replaces the British-era Press and Books Registration Act, 1867.
  • The bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha on August 3. It was passed by a voice vote in the Lok Sabha on Thursday
