Union Cabinet approves Cooperation Agreement between India and Japan on Japan-India Semiconductor Supply Chain Partnership
  • Prime Minister Mr. The Union Cabinet chaired by Narendra Modi has approved the July 2023 Cooperation Agreement between the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan on Japan-India Semiconductor Supply Chain Partnership.
  • Recognizing the importance of semiconductors to the advancement of industries and digital technologies, the MoU seeks to strengthen cooperation between India and Japan in developing the semiconductor supply chain.
  • This MoU shall come into effect from the date of signature by both parties and shall remain in force for a period of five years.
  • Both G2G and B2B bilateral cooperation have opportunities to improve flexible semiconductor supply chains.
  • The MoU aims at enhanced cooperation leading to employment opportunities in the IT sector.
Cabinet approves rates of Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) for Phosphatic and Potassium (P&K) Fertilizers for Rabi Season (01.10.2023 to 31.03.2024) for the year 2023-24
  • Prime Minister Mr. The Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Narendra Modi has approved the proposal of the Fertilizer Department to fix nutrient-based subsidy rates on Phosphatic and Potassium (P&K) fertilizers during the Rabi season (01.10.2023 to 31.03.2024) for the year 2023-24.
  • In the upcoming rabi season 2023-24, the cost of providing nutrition-based subsidy is expected to be Rs 22,303 crore.
  • Subsidy on P & K Fertilizers will be provided on approved rates for the year 2023-24 (applicable from 01.10.2023 to 31.03.2024) to ensure regular availability of these fertilizers at affordable cost to the farmers.
  • Farmers will be ensured access to subsidized, affordable and reasonable fertilizers.
  • Justification of subsidy on P & K fertilizers considering recent trends in international prices of fertilizers and inputs.
  • Government provides 25 grades of B & K fertilizers at subsidized rates to farmers through fertilizer manufacturers / importers. Since 01.04.2010 subsidy on P&K Fertilizers is administered under NPS scheme. In keeping with the farmer friendly approach, the government is committed to ensure availability of P & K fertilizers at affordable prices to the farmers. 
  • Government decision to approve NBS rates for Phosphatic and Potassium (P&K) Fertilizers for 2023-24 from 01.10.23 to 31.03.24 in view of recent trends in international prices of fertilizers and inputs of Urea, DAP, MOB and Sulphur. has done Fertilizer companies will be subsidized as per the approved and notified prices to ensure availability of affordable fertilizers to the farmers.
Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approves inclusion of Uttarakhand's Jamrani Dam Project under Prime Minister's Agricultural Irrigation Scheme-Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Scheme (PMKSY-AIBP)
  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi chaired the inclusion of Jamrani Dam Pannuk Project of Uttarakhand State under the Prime Minister's Agricultural Irrigation Scheme - Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Program (PMKSY-AIBP) of the Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation. Approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs.
  • The Union Ministry of Environment has approved a central government grant of Rs 1,557.18 crore to Uttarakhand to complete the project by March 2028 at a cost of Rs 2,584.10 crore.
  • The project envisages additional irrigation of 57,065 hectares (9,458 hectares in Uttarakhand and 47,607 hectares in Uttar Pradesh) in Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar districts of Uttarakhand and Rampur and Bareilly districts of Uttar Pradesh. 
  • The project also aims to generate 14 MW of hydropower and supply 42.70 million cubic meters (MCM) of drinking water to Haldwani and nearby areas benefiting over 10.65 lakh people.
Tamil Nadu Govt employees get 4 per cent hike in gratuity
  • This government continues to protect the welfare of the government officials and teachers who work with the government in the implementation of various schemes for the welfare of the people. 
  • Despite the severe financial crisis and debt burden left behind by the previous government, this government is working to fulfill its promises on various demands of government officials and teachers.
  • In this way, the Chief Minister kindly considered the continuous demand of the government officials and teachers and whenever the central government employees announced the increase in the gratuity, Tamil Nadu government will immediately follow it and implement the gratuity hike for the government employees and teachers, the current 42 percent of the gratuity will be increased from 01.07.2023 to 46 percent. Chief Minister M.K.Stalin has ordered to raise it.
  • About 16 lakh government employees, teachers, pensioners and family pensioners will benefit from this hike.
  • This will result in an additional expenditure of Rs 2546.16 crore per year to the government. However, the government will allocate additional funds for the benefit of government employees, teachers and pensioners.
First woman officer appointed as Director General of Indian Army Medical Services
  • Air Marshal Sadhana Saxena Nair has been appointed as Director General of Army Medical Services. With this, she has earned the honor of being the first woman to hold the post for the first time.
  • The Indian Air Force has announced that Sadhana Saxena has been promoted as Air Marshal and appointed as the Director General of Army Medical Services. Through this, she has earned the honor of being the first woman to hold this position and the second woman officer to be promoted to the rank of Air Marshal in the Air Force continuously. Padma Bandopadhyay, a retired woman officer, has become the first female air marshal in the Air Force.
  • Sadhana Saxena graduated from the Army Medical College, Pune and joined the Indian Air Force in 1985. Iwar, who holds a master's degree in family medicine, has trained for 2 years at AIIMS, Delhi. 
  • She was the first and only woman officer to serve as Chief Medical Officer of the Western Air and Training Corps. He has received various awards including the Vishishta Seva Medal of the Air Force. 
  • Her husband KP Nair served as Air Marshal and retired. So it is noteworthy that they are the first and only couple to hold the position of Air Marshal in the Air Force.
